I believe that GCU has the potential to be a great university to pursue one’s master degree, depending on the degree, of course. I received my master’s degree in Psychology with emphasis of Life Coaching. While I seemed to sort of ease through my classes, there were times that I felt a bit confused about pursuing this degree. There were some classes that I had to self-teach the material because it was new to me and I had no clue of what to do. The advisors rarely reached out to me to make sure everything was going well, and sometimes, it was difficult to reach them. Some of the professors gave little to no help when I had difficulty understanding the work. Prayer is what got me through my classes, literally. After I graduated, I had no help in finding work. To this day, I still am not working in the field of my chosen degree. No one was there to point me in the next steps to take to start gaining experience in this field. I was so lost after graduation, and no one tried to follow-up with me after graduating to see how I was doing or to offer advise or recommendations. However, I do still receive emails pushing me to continue towards a doctorate degree there. I’ll pass. Would I recommend this university to others, more than likely, it’s a no for me. I wouldn’t want anyone to experience what I’ve had to go through with the lack of communication, help, and understanding.
