Great school for hands-on, experiential learning

Point Park University is a small school, smack dab in the middle of Downtown Pittsburgh, PA. With a student body of under 4,000 and a campus that takes up a few blocks of downtown, the school makes sure the college experience is an intimate one. Class sizes are relatively small with anywhere from 10 to 30 students in a class at a time which makes for great relationships with professors and other staff. The school has a number of great programs but especially their Conservatory of Performing Arts and Rowland School of Business are what shine. Plus the school has its own media center called the Center of Media Innovation which includes photography, broadcast, podcast, and more. One of the best parts about this university is definitely the location. Since students are in the city, the school encourages hands-on experience to the fullest and many students get an internship by the end of their sophomore year in the field they’re interested in. What brings my rating down is that campus life can be kind of poor with few food selections on campus and nowhere to buy groceries other than CVS and Dollar General. Plus, the school is terrible with communication so half the time, students aren’t sure what’s happening within the university which could lead to missing important opportunities. Point Park is a great school for those wanting to obtain a bright future. If you have a strong drive behind you and push to get what you want, then Point Park is the place for you! However, if you have trouble looking for information on your own and getting involved on campus, you might be better off at a bigger college than this small-knit community school.
