I am currently studying PhD in geography. I like the fact that the program is flexible. I am free to take courses from different departments and schools in IU and so I benefit immensely from courses such as I.T and statistics from other departments. IU campus is very beautiful because there are trees and flowers that blossom all year round, especially in the fall when the leaves turn different shades of colours. The professors are very helpful and they pay critical attention to student performance. They give assignments, individual and group projects and final exams to help students to accumulate marks throughout the semester. This is helpful to passing students.
What I do not like about IU is that there are occasional reports of sexual misconduct but I can say it is not peculiar to only IU. Even with this, the IU Police Department is very swift in responding to complaints. Additionally, accommodation is quite expensive. But again, IU offers varieties of on-campus jobs to enable students to offset the cost.
My student life has been interesting since I came to IU because there is a great diversity of students at IU. The school has students from all the continents and so I get to learn from other people’s cultures. Bloomington as a town also has a great diversity of foods that represents different countries – from Mexico to India, China and to Italian and many more.
I hope to be a professor of Geography and IU gives me the opportunity to intern with local schools and also teach as a graduate student. I am very excited that I am at IU. I hope students will consider IU as part of their options when thinking about schools.
