As a recent graduate from Hunter College in NYC, I genuinely appreciated the education I received while pursuing a degree in psychology and a minor in women and gender studies. This college is primarily a commuter school, with approximately 87% of the students being residents in the boroughs of NYC. This statistic reflects not only me but the overwhelming majority of the student body. As a student, I had to balance work and my collegiate studies as well. During my undergrad years, my professors were very kind and aided me not only in my pursuit of intellectual growth but also were empathetic and provided emotional support. To obtain a degree, it is very important to have a support system; I believe professors can play a large role in whether a student will achieve academic success if they are actively concerned with the mental and physical well-being of their students. Thankfully, when I expressed a need, my professors pointed me in the right direction of campus resources and even external resources that truly helped mitigate the extenuating circumstances in my personal life. The only critique I have can be applied to all colleges, which are the mandatory prerequisites that did not have any direct application to my future career. Overall, my experience at Hunter has shaped my career path to be an aspiring member of the education industry.
