I think that Hofstra’s coursework for the School of Communications gave me the chance to learn a lot of different skills within the industry. Digital publishing, video shooting/editing, live reporting work, broadcast production, SEO, there’s a long list of valuable skills that the communications school focuses on in various courses. I also generally approved of the school’s reaction to COVID-19 throughout the pandemic. One of my biggest complaints about the university is its failure to listen to the needs and petitions of its students. Students in the disabled community, in particular, found a number of problems with the school’s accessibility, and it didn’t feel like they were taken seriously by the administration. A report also came out towards the end of my education that the school’s radio station, where many of my friends worked, had a toxic environment that left female members of the station feeling shortchanged. Hofstra is not without its faults, for sure, but I personally found my experience to be overall beneficial to me and my industry knowledge.
