Consistently ranked as one of the best colleges in the USA and internationally, this private institution can be found 25 miles (40km) east of New York City. Hofstra has offered courses at undergraduate and masters levels since its founding in 1935, when it was a part of NYU. Today, around 10,000 students attend the university and are from both the United States and abroad. Hofstra has an impressive reputation, thanks in part to its hosting of presidential debates (for the 2012 and 2016 campaigns, for example).
The institution is based at an impressive campus full of modern facilities – sporting, technological, and academic. There are also around 200 student organisations at students’ disposal.Show more
Hofstra University sprawls over several acres in the heart of Long Island. Thirty minutes from New York City. It is home to over 20,000 students. It boasts the biggest library on the Island along with state-of-the-art student quarters. One of its greatest strengths, among many, is its dynamic Accounting Dept. Hofstra ranks in the highest percentile in the accounting discipline, ranking even higher than Ivy League schools. A fantastic university experience for a cross-section of students from across the country.
View moreI think that Hofstra’s coursework for the School of Communications gave me the chance to learn a lot of different skills within the industry. Digital publishing, video shooting/editing, live reporting work, broadcast production, SEO, there’s a long list of valuable skills that the communications school focuses on in various courses. I also generally approved of the school’s reaction to COVID-19 throughout the pandemic. One of my biggest complaints about the university is its failure to listen to the needs and petitions of its students. Students in the disabled community, in particular, found a number of problems with the school’s accessibility, and it didn’t feel like they were taken seriously by the administration. A report also came out towards the end of my education that the school’s radio station, where many of my friends worked, had a toxic environment that left female members of the station feeling shortchanged. Hofstra is not without its faults, for sure, but I personally found my experience to be overall beneficial to me and my industry knowledge.
