George Mason University is a large site of diversity and inclusion. It’s what they pride themselves to be, and they are right in some areas. As a Black film student in the FAVS program, that diversity isn’t one of those areas. When I looked into the crowd during the Film at Mason showcase, I saw a sea of White students with a sprinkle and dash of Asian and Black. The faculty is no better as there is only one full-time Black professor in the film program. The good thing about the program, in my opinion, is the way the program is set up. GMU itself is a hit or miss sometimes. There’s a lot of freedom to do things, but it’s way too expensive, especially for out-of-state students. Overall, GMU has its good things and its bad.
