History

Established in 1891 as Drexel Institute of Art, Science and Industry by Anthony J. Drexel in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Drexel is a private research university that had the purpose of providing educational opportunities in the “practical arts and sciences” for women and men of all backgrounds.

In 1919 a cooperative education programme was implemented to enhance its focus on career preparation. The latter was an integral part of the university’s educational experience, which consisted of alternating practical work experience with classroom study. In 1936, the institution was renamed as the Drexel Institute of Technology, and later, in 1970 to Drexel University, as its status had changed.Show more

    Co-op overall worth it

    Fun classes, good Westphal professors, and co-op really helps you prepare for working life after college. Philly is Philly, it’s what you make of it. Check out the greenhouse, go out in the city (Chinatown, Old City, Rittenhouse Square) and always check out the Drexel Flea Market!

    Quarter System School is not for the weak

    My time at Drexel University was an experience for sure, although it was interrupted by the Pandemic I was still able to make the most out of it. One thing to note about this school is that although there is a major benefit from being able to participate in the Co-Op program, the quarter system is very vigorous. It’s great in a sense where it will teach you how to prioritize your work load and balance your social life as well if you can manage it. The intensity varies from major to major as well as how beneficial the Co-Op program is from major to major. I would have to say that those in the business and engineering school probably have the best Co-Op experiences.

    The school’s campus was really stunning. It had a tinge of both city and country features. The academic staff was really supportive. When students questioned them, they would quickly and completely respond. It was close to a number of student housing alternatives and provided an outstanding 24-hour learning grid. An great campus with lovely and favorable learning conditions, good student.
