    Bosten is incredible

Even for students like me in the pre-med route, the curriculum at Boston University is incredibly engaging. In addition to having helpful teachers that pay attention to your requirements, they provide a ton of research opportunities that can appropriately prepare you for medical school. It’s easy to meet other college students on the campus and in the neighborhood overall.

    Top notch

Boston University is a top-notch university with the social life, local teachers, and the students all contribute to the overall fantastic environment which happens to be peaceful. This university is outstanding! In addition to having excellent food, the city is quite simple to navigate. Boston is a great place for studying since it has public transportation options like the T and communal bikes.

Academics at BU Can't Be Summarized

Scientists at BU cannot be easily summed up. Some professors are good at doing, they like to teach and explain well. Others are too interested in their research and don’t really know how to teach and/or can get depressed. Office hours range from great to downright boring, but that’s to be expected of any major university. Unfortunately, price gouging has become the norm at BU, and while it doesn’t happen in every class, when it does, it’s pretty impressive. BU has the highest inflation rate in the country – this is not a reason not to go here, but something to be aware of. The kids here are smart, they work very hard, but the average GPA at BU is much lower than that of kids at similar schools. There is little to be granted as you read this. If you come here, know that you will definitely get great classes with passionate professors (especially in your majors), but some classes will be harder (and maybe even harder) to get good grades.

    attendance 75%

My experience with Boston University has been not justified as here it’s mandatory to maintain at least 75% attendance in which they expect us to work an internship to get an extra credit score which is just not possible. Yeah BU has a lot of pros as well like everyone starts to respect you in your fam when they get to know you go in “Boston University” lol but in my opinion, there shouldn’t be an attendance bar for the students to maintain.

Too many great programs for it to understand

The biology program at BU is great, but it also has massive struggles. If you’re pre-med, be prepared for the teachers to make you struggle early on, they will put classes and assignments just to weed out inexperienced or not-medically minded students (even if you’re not premed you generally are encouraged to take these courses). If you’re studying biology with a concentration in behavior, ecology and conservation or just general biology you will be left to your own devices. If you’re lucky you will have a great advisor, but you will still have to put in all the research and planning yourself if you want to do anything non-academic with your future, or if you want to find REUs or other opportunities. The TEP and BUMP programs are great research experience for anyone leaning towards research in ecology. BU has great abroad programs and has several tailored for science majors, so if you want to spend a semester abroad it’s always possible! But you have to be very self motivated ans directed and already know about research opportunities and internships that you can get involved with because the BU biology department does very little education and imparts very little knowledge on these topics.
