Blinn College was established in 1883 as Mission Institute by the Southern German Conference of the Methodist denomination. Shortly after its establishment, in 1889, the institute started to admit women, and in the following year, the name was changed to Blinn Memorial College. In 1927, a junior college was organised by the Board of Trustees, and 3 years after, Blinn merged with Southwestern University of Georgetown, Texas. In 1937, all connections with Southwestern University and the Methodist denominations were terminated. In that same year, Blinn became the first county-owned junior college district in Texas, after the Washington County levied a property tax for the creation of a public junior college district in Texas.Show more
Some years later, in 1970, the Bryan campus was established, and in the following decade, a third campus was opened. Bryan campus was expanded, with the construction of some buildings, and in 2002, Schulman Theatre was purchased and converted into a classroom. In 1997 Schulenburg campus opened, and Sealy campus in 2005.
Academics at Blinn College
Blinn is a two-year academic institution, which then transfers its students to four-year universities. In addition, it has the highest transfer rate in the State of Texas, with every 49 out of 100 students transferring to another university.
Blinn College has a wide range of programmes on offer to its students, such as Associate Degree and Vocational Nursing, Physical Therapy Assisting, Dental Hygiene, Radiology Technology, Fire Science, Criminal Justice, Surgical Technology, EMS, Early Childhood Development, Computer Information Technology, Information Management, Legal Assisting, Real Estate, and Business (General Business, Hospitality Management, Small Business Management Accounting, Business Administration and Management).
Student Life
With almost 20,000 students in 2018 and more than 65% of them attending the Bryan campus, Blinn College is a university with a very strong athletic tradition. Offering intercollegiate athletics for over 100 years, and with 30 national championships won since 1987, Blinn has a wide variety of teams in which students take part and a more competitive mindset is developed there.
Blinn is a known school that prepares its students to undergo further studies, and it has been expanding steadily throughout the years.
