I started university with little understanding of what I was doing and what my plans were for the future. Now that I have finished my first year, I look back to all the things I have learnt and opportunities that have been possible for me. In academic terms, the university has allowed me to submerge in my studies and learn so many new things and concepts that I can apply to my daily life. It is academically challenging but the support from my lecturers, seminar leaders and personal tutor has allowed me to develop my understanding of sociology and myself. Outside of the academic realm, the university offers an amazing campus filled with green spaces, hangout spots, restaurants, etc. Located in a small and safe city, walking around alone at night is completely safe, especially compared to other cities. There are many societies and clubs, and joining several of them opened the way for many of my friendships. Besides the number of sports and social societies, which I recommend joining, there are many academic, business-related and other types of societies which will empower you and bring you closer to internships and placements. I cannot recommend UoE enough!
