Inclusive, Impressive and Innovative

The University of Sheffield is inclusive, impressive and innovative. There are over 300 societies, which range from sports societies like volleyball or rounders to cooking societies, political societies and cultural ones, allowing you to find your niche easily. There’s also ‘this girl can’ sessions weekly, allowing you to be comfortable and try new sports! I tried volleyball, belly dancing and glow in the dark Zumba – all of which were really fun and I met some really nice people there.

The University has the best student union in the UK. It is so good there – there are clubs there, the first-ever eco-shop at a Uni, so many restaurants (which have broad ranges of food from vegan, gluten-free, Mexican, Spanish and Italian) and the best SU shop where you can buy foods from around the world, or a really good meal deal before you go to your lecture!

As someone with a disability, I always worried University would be a challenge, as I was worried about not being able to keep up, not being able to go on nights out all the time and just being different from my peers – but, you find the right people easily and the right friends will be understanding. If you want to go out every night, then there will be people who will go with you but you can also find friends who enjoy staying in and having fun at your student flat instead. Nobody judges if you drink or don’t drink, so that’s really nice. However, if you do, the University has amazing clubs and west street is definitely one of the best streets in the UK for a night out!

With regards to my course, I did International Business Management, which meant I got to do a year abroad in France – an experience I highly recommend. If you go the Sheffield, you can do a 3-year course, with your year abroad included, meaning that you’re not at uni for 4 years – keeping costs lower! I loved my course – I learnt so much, learnt so many new techniques and analytical skills that I found were really useful when working at Amazon. You get an extremely broad knowledge range, allowing you to find what you enjoy, without sticking yourself onto one topic.

Sheffield is an amazing city, it is growing constantly and it is full of students, allowing you to find where you fit and not worry about being different.
