Oxford Brookes provides you with the most important type of education, experiential education. The University provides you with over 50 courses to choose from and gives you ample flexibility. Oxford Brookes can pride itself on its diversity and inclusivity when it comes to ethnicity, race and gender. Starting in my first year, I got to work in a kitchen, a restaurant, learnt about different wines, and also was provided knowledge regarding various successful marketing and HR techniques. In my second year/placement year, I worked at St James’s Court (A Taj Hotel), London. I believe that this experience helped change me as a person. I had more knowledge about the industry, I became more confident and my perspective on life changed. It is so important to be given the chance to work for a year in order to actually understand your area of expertise. It allowed me to get on with my career as soon as I graduated and put me ahead of the rest of the other candidates. In my third year, I learned a lot about finance and tourism. This is another great thing about the University, they teach you beyond your course, helping you gain skills that will be useful in every type of career or walk of life. In my fourth year I got a chance to organise and plan an event of my own. Here, I got to use all my skills that I learnt throughout my University life in a real-life setting. As far as the town goes, it is extremely close to London, allowing me to visit the rest of my friends often. Oxford has a wide range when it comes to shopping and restaurants. It is a quaint, historical town with its own charm.
