Overall, my experience at the university was very good and I would recommend to other students. There was lots of support in terms of lifestyle, mental health and accommodation. In terms of the teaching I would say it was mixed. My best experience was with my dissertation supervisor (Linda Kaye) – she was amazing in helping support me with my dissertation quickly and her replies were so quick. In terms of my other modules there was a mix of support for instance one of my modules there was not enough assessment support but with others there was enough. I do think Covid was part of this though.

I enjoy the content of my degree. However, I find that if i’m struggling with work, it’s hard to find help. In addition to this, if I have performed poorly on an assignment, the given feedback does not tell me how to improve my grade. Also feel as though we wait a long time for results for assignments compared to other courses.

The Edge Hill Psychology BSc surpassed my expectations, particularly as I was just completing my first year as Covid started and my second year was entirely remote as I was considered high risk. I felt that the university adapted quickly and efficiently to the change of circumstances and went above and beyond what was required. For example, I was allowed to complete my whole 2nd year from home as I was anxious about my personal health, and whilst Government guidelines kept changing, the university was consistent in their approval of work from home for the vulnerable.

On returning to university to undertake my third year, the university had made alterations, the biggest of which was that all lectures were now available as recorded sessions. It had become obvious to me during covid that a recording of lectures was a plus point for any student not just those working from home and I felt that the university and psychology department took this on board.

Modules in the third year had a flexible approach to seminars, allowing students to work from home when required but also giving them the flexibility and opportunity to attend class.

All around I felt that the psychology department handled very difficult circumstances very well.

Overall, I believe that the course was delivered to a high standard by professors who were always willing to go the extra mile and help out students who came forward. The lessons, either delivered in person or online, were relatively easy to follow and were informative enough for students to gain knowledge. Additional reading around subjects were encouraged my staff. The campus and psychology building was modern and outfitted with equipment to conduct psychological research, which was advantageous. There were a wide range of societies by which most students could find their niche and build relationships with others who shared similar interests.

I loved the fact that over the three year degree there are a vast array of different areas of study through a wide range of both core and third year modules of your choice that both broaden your understanding and interest but also enhance career options and graduate opportunities.
Furthermore the flexibility and the rapid change to online learning during the pandemic was effective and successful with student feedback being highly appreciated and allowed for constant refining of the course and modules and blended learning approach.

Really enjoyed the courses available at the University especially in third year when you were able to specialise in chosen areas! I do believe there is some repetition on the course regarding being taught biological

Such a great course and tutors. It was a difficult time during COVID but I felt as though there was support every step of the way. Room for improvement for some communication to over the time we were in lockdown and hopefully better equipped to support distance learning now.

Going to miss studying here and the excellent building!

I’ve just completed my first year at Edge Hill University and I loved it, the psychology course I found to be really helpful and was also accessible for those who did psychology at A-level as well as those who didn’t; as well as giving new stimulus for students who learnt psychology at A-level. All the tutors were extremely helpful and understanding.

I thought the university provided excellent facilities and tutors were always willing to help. The 24/7 library was definitely a perk and the university feels like one huge community. One improvement I would suggest is that some courses within the uni are provided with a module that enables them work experience, as a psychology graduate it is now difficult to find a career with no experience (other than my part time job), maybe one module, even if that has to be in first year of work experience would be very beneficial later down the line.

I was extremely pleased with how some of the lectures went as they could be very engaging and made me want to learn. However, the communication within the department could be quite shocking at times and the personal tutor system/ diss supervisor systems definitely need some work.
