University College London is one of the most prestigious universities in the UK. As a first-year student at this university, I can say that I have really enjoyed my life here. First of all the university is in the perfect location. The teaching system is also really good and the lecturers are always trying to improve themselves. My degree is History, Politics, and Economics. I’m really happy with my course as well even though not many people realise it’s in the SSEES department. I would only say that UCL is a really crowded university which makes it hard to find seats in the library or student centre or anywhere. However, I would definitely recommend UCL to a friend since its both academic and social opportunities are a lot.
View moreCultural diversity is the key strength of the university. This, together with the central Bloomsbury location and an overall friendly atmosphere, allows to have a great student life. Professors and tutors are extremely available with helping students, however some tutorials do not prepare adequately for exams. This significantly increases the amount of work at home in order to achieve good results.
View moreThe quality of the education at UCL varied greatly. Overall a good experience, and often interesting tutorials. However, the quality of these were often poor and did not always meet our expectations of a top level institution. Lectures are generally good with a few significant exceptions.
View moreHaving spent a year at UCL, I must say it is a world-class university, with a great academic staff, and a vibrant, multi-national student community. One has the opportunity to engage with world-leading researchers in their respective fields, and one will be pushed to excel over the course of ones studies. Due to the large student body, one has to adopt a certain level of self-discipline, as one will in no way be nannied through ones degree. In my experience, one will get far if one takes the responsibility to seize the opportunities that are provided.
The University is situated in central London, which provides plenty of opportunities for socializing and experiencing various museums and cultural events. The Student organisation hosts several bars, where one may always pop by for a cold pint and nice co-students.
I would recommend UCL to anyone seeking an ambitious academic life and who feels ready to tackle the challenges one meets.
View moreWhat I really like about UCL is that it is comprehensive towards its students. If you have difficulties or are going through a difficult time for example, there are many ways to be helped and supported. The quality of teaching is also very good, but the administration of my department could be improved.
View moreGood university but some classes could be better taught. The administration is very slow and the department that I am in is very restrictive regarding modules. Except from that I really enjoyed my first year and the topic I studied. I also met incredible people from all over the world which is a plus.
View moreI love what I learn and the teachers are really available to discuss and help. There are also many departments to help students with their wellbeing, professional prospects (help with CV, cover letter interview, conferences presenting different professions etc).
I also enjoy the general atmosphere and population in UCL, the students are from very different background and are very interesting.
View morePro: dedicated and knowledgeable teaching staff, most of whom are willing to put in over hours. Although the SSEES economics department staff are lacking to say the least.
Great location and so many opportunities are offered as a result.
Supportive and fun atmosphere, good community feeling, good socially, especially in terms of meeting people from all over the world.
Con: poor organisational bureaucracy and poor facilities for some classes eg having lectures in a hotel
UCL accommodation itself is a rip off
Overall a good experience, generally good teaching and quite a lot of freedom in picking modules you’re interested in.
Student life is good, with uni bars, parties and hundreds societies. It might feel different than a campus uni though as not everyone lives in close proximity to UCL.
The university’s city campus is located in Bloomsbury, just a walk away from other universities (LSE
