The time I spent studying Social Sciences at King’s College London was extremely transformative and unforgettable as the programme took on an interdisciplinary approach that was new and exciting to me. Due to this, I thoroughly enjoyed classes, especially the ones we were able to pick ourselves, as it meant I could focus on topics that were important to me, such as gender and race. The university is also incredibly well-equipped with resources which always made me feel supported. However, when it came to administrative issues, I felt that it could have been more efficient as there were many delays when resolving issues. Additionally, the university has multiple campuses, some better than others, which made it difficult to travel between campuses and to experience the true community building university experience.

Studying social sciences at King’s College London has been a truly enriching experience. The program not only provides a comprehensive understanding of various social phenomena but also fosters critical thinking and analytical skills that are invaluable in today’s complex world.

One standout aspect of my journey has been the dedicated faculty. The professors and instructors are experts in their fields, passionate about teaching, and always eager to engage with students. Their guidance and mentorship have significantly enhanced my academic growth.

The university’s diverse and vibrant campus environment has allowed me to interact with students from all corners of the globe. This cultural exchange has broadened my perspectives and enriched my social network, making my time at King’s College London even more memorable.

The library and research facilities are world-class, offering an abundance of resources for social science students. Whether it’s accessing academic journals or conducting in-depth research, the university provides the necessary tools to excel in our studies.

However, it’s worth noting that the workload can be demanding, requiring strong time management skills. Yet, this challenge has contributed to my personal and academic growth, preparing me for the rigors of the real world.

One of the best parts about King’s College London is that there are so many people from so many nationalities. During your studies, you take part in many lectures and seminars while finding out about various cultures, ethnicities, and identities. Also, KCL has so many campuses across London, giving the chance of experiencing the city as a whole to the students.

I was staying at the Kings Great Dover Street Apartments near the Waterloo campus. It was in Southwark on SE1. It was a large complex divided into about 12 blocks, with several apartments in each block. The location was good, close to the main bus stops that take you to all other parts of London. Close to many theaters and museums. Within 45 minutes by bus to campus.

I am a first-year student at Kings College London studying Social Sciences. While getting into this fairly new course at KCL that began just 3 years ago, I was unsure about what experiences I would have. The Social Sciences course offered a multitude of real-life applications to daily lectures, broadening my spectrum not only as a student but as a well-informed individual of society. Furthermore, in this course, we have optional modules such as the work placement module that offer students an experience to do some groundwork correlating to the things we study.

With all of the fantastic aspects of this course, there are still a few improvements I could foresee. This includes the assignment we are made to do. Our assignments are focused on a ton of readings and writing essays. While that may prove to be extremely helpful, as a student, I would have liked more group assignments and other forms of writing.

All in all, the course does provide helpful resources for further education or career options such as the obvious, becoming a social scientist, and a foundation for careers such as journalism, law, and more. I would highly recommend studying this course.

Coming to King’s has got to be one of the best decisions I’ve made in life. The teaching structure is incredibly dynamic; I’ve learnt more in my first two years here than I did throughout high school. Although there’s always place for improvement, King’s is incredibly diverse and constantly strives to increase its international vision (highlighted by its internationalisation 2029 vision). The extracurriculars are something else I want to point out – with over 300 societies, all extremely active, King’s provides its students with an extremely enabling environment and allows them to step out of their comfort zones and become the best version of themselves (no I was not paid to write this, I just love my uni). From Model UN to Comedy Society, there’s never a dull moment at KCL (although the SU and admin could really do with some improvement – not the most efficient, slow at replying and oftentimes clueless when it comes to solving students problems). Also, the campuses and study spaces are great, without a doubt the best in London (BUSH HOUSE!!). Basically, coming to KCL has been life changing, and I’d 100% recommend it to anyone who’s considering applying 🙂

Generally the university scores very high on most criteria. It provides proper education, the facilities are modern and well-maintained, the lecturers and tutors are clear and usually provide detailed and useful feedback. Overall, the university is a very good one, but there are a couple of things that lack in my opinion. One of those is the option for more creative work due to a lack of variety in projects (the university is mainly concerned with research, essays, and strict mathematical problems). Most of the policies, such as the grading one, are a bit obscure as they rely on criteria such as “requires good analysis”. Students usually are not shown examples of what “good analysis” means, so this can be quite subjective, resulting in lower grades, especially in the humanitarian subjects, such as mine. In addition, the central location of the university (which is really comfortable) plays a role in the whole “university spirit”. Students do not hang out that often due to the lack of an actual campus as there are streets with cars between most of the university’s buildings. Although there’s a good variety of societies, most do not organize bigger gatherings (usually due to financial constraints), which again impacts the whole “community spirit”. Another point that should be made (which may be applicable to other universities in Central London as well) is the high accommodation prices. Most of the rooms are really well-looking, but I would not say they are worth the 300 GBP some of those costs.

I feel like the university offers amazing facilities in an even better location, however, the admin aspect of the university does appear to be lacking. KEATS has crashed a few times and is quite confusing. Socially the uni provides a lot of events, especially during welcome week. My course so far has been very interesting and the uni provides a lot of lectures and seminars.
