Imperial is a high intensity learning environment where students are expected to take initiative for their own learning. Because of this, there is a large emphasis on independent reading beyond the syllabus in addition to maintaining a firm grasp on the core lecture material. This makes Imperial a challenging but rewarding environment when success ensues. Students will feel that they have a comprehensive awareness of any topic in their area of specialism and can talk about many subjects with authority. This makes Imperial a world-class institution and prepares the students exceptionally well for life after university.
View moreOne of my favourite things about Imperial is its diversity, by studying with peers from all over the world has not only built my network but also broaden my mind. The academic staffs are also very friendly, responsive and supportive. With multiple academic activities each month, including seminars, conferences and speech, these create a good academic environment on campus. Moreover, there are more than 300 clubs in Imperial which allows me to choose anything I like and enjoy my wonderful Uni life.
View moreThe course that I’m studying is very diverse and we’re taught a range of topics spanning a wide spectrum within the subject, which makes it very enjoyable.
Not only do I enjoy the course that I am studying, but the student life too is really good. There are people from various backgrounds and from different corners of the world, making the community very diverse and welcoming. The numerous clubs and societies are a good way to get engaged in activities that you enjoy. And there are numerous volunteering opportunities too.
Of course it may vary, but overall the quality of teaching Imperial provides is exceptional. Many professors are world-renowned experts in their field. The opportunities to develop practical experience are also plenty. As someone with interest in biotechnology, I would totally recommend coming here.
I must warn that the workload is no joke. Forget the words of whoever said uni would be easy. I did IB, which is stereotypically hard. My first year of uni was like three IB’s.
Accommodation quality varies. There are both excellent modern halls and rustier ones. Some of them are located right next to the South Kensington campus and are perhaps the cheapest accommodation in the area. Like in all London unis, it’s provided mainly for first-years, though.
The location of the South Ken campus is an undisputed winner. As for the facilities itself, some buildings are nice and modern, some are historic and beautiful, and some are in the ‘uncanny valley’ of being too old to be shiny but having no adornments of archaic buildings. It also gets pretty crowded. The White City campus is massive and impressively hi-tech. I haven’t been to others.
What else to say? There are many societies to suit a wide range of interests, I’m very happy with the ones I’m associated with.
As an international student, I love the ethnic diversity of the student body. It makes me feel at home. There is indeed a nerdy vibe but personally I don’t mind it. And people here still have all sorts of personalities. I’ve found the best friendship groups I’ve ever had in my life here.
Overall, don’t come to Imperial if you’re going to uni to party and drink. But it’s the right place if you want to gain knowledge, experience and a diploma for a top-10 worldwide institution. You’ll get to work like a galley slave but it’s worth it.
View moreThe international culture is fantastic, there’s such a wide variety of cultures. The lecturers and professors are amazing, all enthusiastic and dedicated to both their work and to teaching students. The wide variety of societies is also fantastic as it feels like there are limitless options to choose from!
View moreA great university for the opportunity-seeking student. The education is good, but it excels at giving a true-to-life view of the future professional environment. It gives knowledge, soft skill training and networking opportunities.
View moreRSM Geology- I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Imperial. The staff was really supportive and the students on the course were very friendly and welcoming. Some modules were challenging and a real step up from college/school.
View moreImperial is a very well connected university, the opportunities here to learn from the brightest minds are endless. Really top of the line infrastructure and good campus, good food choices although they might be a bit pricey. Great library. My only criticism the general atmosphere of competitiveness which may give some students the impression that there is nothing outside of studies.
View moreIt’s a very good university with a high standard of teaching (you can get taught by people who are world experts in their particular field) and good networking opportunities (Imperial has good connections with many top institutions).
View moreVery good organization of class and lab programs. Easy access to library facilities. High quality of education and distinguished teaching staff. I never used the university ‘s accommodation so I have no opinion.
