What is a Management degree?

A Management degree builds a strong foundation in a wide variety of fields including business, finance, economics and marketing. It develops students’ understanding of business practices, structures, business theory, business strategy and research as well as global economies and financial markets. Doing a Management Degree also allows students to gain skills that enable them to work with financial and numerical data effectively.

Management degrees cover different managerial roles, such as Human Resource (HR) management, hospitality management, innovation management, operations management, etc. They can be specialized into one of the areas mentioned above or follow a more general approach that covers most of these areas.

The range of management degrees is huge and includes Business Management, Management, Marketing Management, etc. They are predominantly offered in the business departments/business schools/management schools of different universities.

Benefits of a Management degree

One of the main benefits of this degree is that Management is a broad discipline, which keeps students’ career options open.

Management degrees could have a very practical focus, which is an opportunity for students to gain experience in the process of completing their degree before having started their professional careers. Management courses usually offer work placements and practical modules, which include business simulations and business creation in a simulated environment. Acquiring practical experience through these opportunities could make students stand out from the crowd in the job market once they graduate. Research-oriented Management degrees also exist for those who prefer the theoretical aspects of such a degree. Most courses, however, have established a good balance between theory and practice in order to meet the needs of all students.

Management degrees also prepare students to serve the managerial role across a wide range of areas, including HR management, hospitality management, innovation management, operations management, etc. Students can specialize in one particular area or focus on gaining knowledge across all of these areas thanks to the high availability of different management courses.

Additionally, there is a high demand for management professionals in the contemporary business world. Therefore, taking a management course is an opportunity for students to kick-start their careers and occupy a higher position in the organizational hierarchy.

management degree Structure

Management courses usually begin by introducing students to different areas covered by the managerial role, such as organizational management, business environment, statistics, accounting and finance, business growth, etc. After the first year, institutions allow students to explore the management discipline into more depth by delivering specialized modules and offering optional modules, which enable students to choose subjects that interest them the most and are most relevant to their career aspirations.

Management degrees take 3 years to complete in the UK. However, their duration could extend to 4 years if students choose to spend a year in industry between their second and third year, which is a popular option among the student community. Setting placement opportunities apart, the duration of a Management degree depends on three main factors – country, mode of study (part-time or full-time) and degree level. Below are listed the approximate durations of Management degrees in the most popular countries for Higher Education in Europe:

University of Hertfordshire -via SPC College, UAE

BA (Hons) Business Management | 3rd Year

I’m currently in my final year studying Business Management with the University of Hertfordshire through SPC College in the UAE. Overall, it’s been a solid experience as I was looking for a recognized UK degree without leaving the UAE.

    What’s Good?

    1. UK curriculum with access to UH’s online resources, library, and proper academic structure.

    2. Flexible learning – good for students who are working or prefer independent study.

    3. Some local faculty at SPC are supportive and help break down complex topics.

    What to Know?

    1. You’ll need to be self-motivated because a lot of the learning is independent.

    2. Campus life is limited, not much in terms of events or clubs.

    3. Admin and academic support are slow at times during busy periods.

If you’re focused on getting your degree and don’t mind a low-key campus experience, this is a practical and affordable option. Just stay consistent and make use of the resources provided.

    classroom experience and timetable design

Coming from a background where so much attention is not given to the classroom and timetable design and how it impacts students’ directly and indirectly. Coming to UH has given me a different view and perspective on how an ideal timetable should be designed, with each student having a unique timetable that will enable every student to have adequate access to a conducive classroom for easy learning. This is the first point for any student to be successful, because adequate attention will be given to the student in the classroom and in such an environment knowledge can easily be passed and the inclusion of technology both hardware and software even makes the classroom experience a lot better

    Good environment good faculty.

The University of Hertfordshire is a solid choice, especially for business and management courses. It has good facilities, diverse student life, and strong industry connections. Some feel the campus could be more lively, but overall, it’s a good uni with decent support. If you’re looking for a practical, career-focused education, it’s worth considering!

    Very good course

The University of Hertfordshire, based in Hatfield, UK, offers a wide variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programs. It is particularly recognized for its emphasis on employability, providing students with plenty of opportunities for work placements, internships, and partnerships with industries, which enhance practical learning. The campus is equipped with modern facilities, including advanced laboratories, sports complexes, and high-quality student accommodation.

The university enjoys a strong reputation in fields such as business, engineering, and computer science, with an increasing focus on research. However, some students have expressed that certain programs could offer more depth or academic rigor. While the faculty is generally helpful and approachable, the quality of teaching can sometimes receive mixed reviews from students.

Socially, the university offers a dynamic campus life with a wide range of clubs, societies, and events, ensuring a lively environment for students. Its proximity to London also provides additional cultural and career opportunities for students.

Overall, the University of Hertfordshire is an excellent option for those looking for a career-oriented education in a supportive setting, though it may not have the same level of prestige as older, more established institutions.

    Excellent Opportunities for Development

I really enjoyed my time at university. I studied International Business with Mandarin Chinese and got to experience studying abroad as part of my degree. The university provided several different opportunities for personal and professional growth: a multitude of sports teams, societies with frequent events, Active Students, job fests, study abroad and work placements, plus much more, such as coaching, and graduate support.

I liked the course I studied. It was interesting and gave me with a solid, all-round business knowledge base. I liked the variety of societies offered. I liked the Active Students free exercise classes and sessions. I liked the student union.

I disliked that the two campuses of the university were so far from each other. I personally did not have any lectures on the other campus, but some of my friends did and it was quite inconvenient to have to walk 25 minutes to get to lectures.

I would definitely recommend the University of Hertfordshire! Looking back, the personal growth I experienced during my time at university surprises me, but it really did shape who I am today and gave me a lot of opportunities to improve myself as someone from a low-income background.

    Diversity is UH’s Achievement

University of Hertfordshire is an amazing university catering for people of all cultures, ethnicities, and backgrounds. Not just that, but they have allowed students from countries such as Kenya, Singapore, and Pakistan to study with the university through distance learning, making all their resources available for students in those countries to use. There is also an online option where a student from any country can pursue their degree without the costs of transport and settlement. The university platform allows for easy online access to resources, assignments, and grades making it a very smooth sail. There is good open communication between students and module leaders making it easy to have our questions answered whenever we stumble upon a problem. I would definitely recommend this university to students of UK and other countries too!
