I’m currently a second year student at Surrey and so far I have loved this university, it has a huge campus and I would definitely recommend living on campus if you get the opportunity. There are lots of places to hang out with friends, grab some food and a lot of study spaces too. Overall it has a very campus like feel and the club (Rubix) on campus makes nights out safe and convenient since it’s probably a 5 min walk back to your accom.
The staff are always really friendly and approachable but that is dependent on your course – I study Media and Communication which comes under the sociology department and so far the staff have been really friendly and helpful. The career resources are very helpful, there is a dedicated team and you can book an appointment with them anytime for anything from advice to job specific cover letter reviews and help with CVs and interviews.
However Guildford as a town isn’t really a student town, there are clubs, bars, restaurants and cafes in town but it is more of a residential area especially compared to the London atmosphere. If you aren’t living on Stag Hill campus you should definitely think about bringing a bike or a car if you have one. The buses aren’t the most reliable and can end up being quite expensive if you use them everyday. It is worth getting a bus pass however that is £56 for a 28 day pass which isn’t exactly affordable.
View moreI am currently in my second year of University, and am studying Media and Communications. Since Covid-19 ruined my experience last year, this year has started off great, and I have been able to get a real sense of what the University life is like, as well as meeting new people and having a better class experience overall. We have many students across the world, and thus I have been able to expand my friendship groups and become more social, as everyone in my course is very friendly and kind. As for the course itself, so far I really enjoy it, it’s fun, interesting and engaging, and definitely something different for me. The work we are given is very straightforward, and plenty of materials are offered in order to help us achieve the best of our potential. I would highly recommend doing Media and Communications, especially if you are looking to go into the film industry, journalism or marketing, or even if you don’t have a particular career in mind, it will certainly open the door for many opportunities.
