Psychology is the favourite science for students who want to get into the depths of human feelings. This is considered to be the science of mind and behaviour. More specifically, psychology wants to explore the way people think, act, and feel, by appealing to the emotional side of people.
Passion can lead students to choose this specialisation. It is not considered a difficult one, but it is not very easy to approach, as the theoretical elements of the discipline are combined with the practical ones.
After studying Psychology, students choose to specialise in a particular sub-field. Depending on their preference, they can choose between Biological Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Comparative Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Personality Psychology and many others.
Psychology is a great opportunity to get to know each other better and to get to know others. Thus, students who are looking to understanding human behaviour, feelings and mind gain an inside vision of what these notions really mean and what determines people to make certain decisions and act under different circumstances.
The employment rate among Psychology graduates has grown in recent years. Salaries are satisfactory, and young people can focus either on psychological services in schools, hospitals, treatment centres, clinics, depending on the specialisation chosen. Furthermore, Psychology graduates can integrate a career in social media, marketing, and advertising, as they understand best the reasons why people choose to make decisions according to what they see in real life.
In the four years of Bachelor studies, graduates acquire the necessary knowledge to practice Psychology, initially learning the underlying theoretical notions. These notions become an important starting point in their career, seeing later how practice blends very well with theory. It should be noted that on the labour market, students who hold a Bachelor’s degree are much more appreciated and have an advantage over those who follow simple courses.
A Master’s program usually lasts between 2 and 3 years, coming as a complement to the Bachelor’s courses. Master courses have a much more loaded curriculum and a great deal of information. A Doctoral program is dedicated to students who want to do research in Psychology in various institutes or to become teachers. This has a duration of between 5 and 7 years.
I have found my experience at the University of Strathclyde, generally, very positive. It is easily accessible via public transport as it is located in the middle of Glasgow city centre. This always means that there is a multitude of shops, restaurants, pubs and cafes nearby which is favourable. All of the lecturers which I have met have been very helpful, and have explained things very well. I am particularly impressed by my tutor throughout my dissertation who was always at hand to answer any questions I had, no matter how silly they may have been. This made me feel very comfortable throughout my degree and created a positive educational atmosphere. The one area in which I feel the course fell short was the group work/student interaction element. Up until the fourth year, there were no tutorials for my degree and I found it hard to meet other people and form friendships. I know other subjects have frequent tutorials and group work and I feel this is something that my subject area should do more of in the future, to help more reserved and introverted people like myself make friends.
View moreStudying Psychology at the University of Strathclyde was a fun experience. All the staff and students are lovely. The course had engaging content and was executed well. I really enjoyed a lot of the topics, especially in my last year of university. The university is in the heart of Glasgow and coffee is never too far with the union coffee tasting amazing and being cheap, Tim Hortons is also a stone’s throw away. The only issue I have is that some of the campus buildings are up a steep hill which got me tired but was good for my glutes. I had a great 4 years and would definitely recommend this course and university. So many great memories and friends were made here.
View moreI love the course work already but i also love the fact that how helpful everyone around me is, my tutors, peers, the student support staff and they’re not only supportive but also friendly. The campus is a beautiful place to spend time at and the library is where i spend most of my time. The city of Glasgow is so beautiful and doesn’t fail to impress me every single day with its seasonal beauty.
View moreI have really enjoyed most aspects of this course and would definitely recommend Strathclyde to anyone who may be considering it. the only downside was that a lot of my course was online due to covid, meaning it was very difficult to make friends/meet people. However, this obviously could not be helped at the time and presumably won’t be an issue for future students.
View moreI am currently doing my master’s degree in counselling and psychotherapy. The tutors are so helpful, supportive, very understanding and considerate of your needs. The campus is very beautiful with an amazing student union building to hang out with friends to relax after class or between classes. The building and rooms are very professional and huge that you might get lost in the building sometimes! There are various clubs and events that happen on a regular basis and it is fun to attend. I love the city it is located in, Glasgow. I am having a very good time here.
View moreI’m Priyanka from India, currently doing my masters degree at the University of Strathclyde in counselling and psychotherapy. My course is a blend of online and on-campus learning. I love the campus, especially the student’s union, gym and library. The tutors and enquiries team has been extremely patient and helpful throughout the processes and enquiries I had.
