The university of Strathclyde is a very innovative environment where there are several places to study/ lounge located all around the campus and its buildings. The lecturers are always prepared with prerecorded videos on the online website as well as in person Q and A sessions for any questions. However some modules contain mostly prerecorded videos and online notes and fours without any real way to contact the module leader, other than email.
View moreI started my studies at the University of Strathclyde back in 2017 and coming from Spain they have always made me feel at home here. Especially all the student-led events that take part during Freshers and Consolidation week in September and January are a great way to meet people and I would highly recommend living in student halls at least once just for the experience.
I went through the COVID pandemic while being a student at this institution and I could not be more grateful with the way they handled the situation. They proved that they can get to be a very flexible university with a focus on their students’ wellbeing, which I really appreciated.
There are some parts and departments of the University that sill need to modernise, such as some Chemistry laboratories and some old equipment that needs to be replaced, but on the other hand, they also have state-of-the-art facilities like the labs at the Technology Innovation Centre (TIC) building. It is definitely a University of contrasts but during my time there I have seen its exponential growth with the construction of the new pool and sports centre as well as the new student union in a matter of only 5 years.
If the visible inequalities that exist between departments can be minimised and they improve the way in which they collect and implement student feedback, it can really become one of the best places in the UK to study.
View moreThe syllabus is interesting and challenging with lots of extra material to learn for those that are extra keen. Some of the lecturers can be quite useless which leads to having to learn the subject by yourself which can be unnecessarily challenging. The night life in Glasgow is great and there’s always someone in the student union bar. Overall I’d definitely recommend Strathclyde to a friend.
