The University of Glasgow provides a high-quality international education. There are classes offered on a variety of topics, even those you have never thought of! The professors are diverse and have strong academic backgrounds. They are eager to help and will push you to think critically. Glasgow city offers a great balance of social activities but it is still intimate and comfortable. The university is well-located and plays a big part of Glasgow life. You will find countless study spaces at UofG, including the new Learning Hub. Students are all welcoming and friendly. I felt at home from the first week as there are many orientation activities to meet other people. My experience at UofG has been great. Studying here has definitely helped my careers prospects.
View moreI couldn’t agree more witnessing what the university has to offer while it stands out on the list of the top 100 World Best Universities. Besides the best quality of education students earn in classes, there are countless opportunities for their interest to partake in student unions and clubs advancing their skills and building network. Being an international student, the university support system is the cherry on top! Being an international student, the challenge of writing an academic paper is just the tip of the iceberg, yet embedding life in a new land is truly a real train of challenges. From this picture, I would recommend a student to take the most advantage of this support system as you will get not only academic but mental support from the university. At the same time, do not miss the opportunity to enjoy your life on campus and friends you have encountered here!
View moreMy time at UoG has been a very happy one and every Glaswegian I have met has been very friendly and has given me a deep sense of affinity. I majored in art and had very few classes, but the teachers encouraged us to develop freely, especially in my dissertation which I experienced a lot. My supervisor never denied my ideas, he only encouraged me to think more and always opened up new research ideas for me, and most of the teachers I met were very nice. during my interdisciplinary course selection, the teachers I met from other departments were often interested in my situation and remembered my name from the first class 🙂 the only one I didn’t feel quite right was Many Chinese students, especially after the 2022 expansion, will have a relatively poor experience. (I am a Chinese student and I graduated this year)
View moreI want to begin by stating that my time at university has been life-changing. I have met new people, gained invaluable life experiences and found out what I want to do with my career. The modules starting Year 3 of this course are exciting, insightful and tackle real-world problems from theoretical and practical perspectives. It highlights the importance of education and learning on a basic level, and expertly handles upsetting issues and hardships children and young people face. I have developed skills in both practical and research-based roles and found that as opposed to working in a classroom, I want to work with an educational provision in order to better the quality of learning for both pupils and their teachers.
Assignments for these courses focus on the implementation of learning experiences in a practical setting, detailing the vast quantity of subjects and Learning Objectives that can be taught through all curricular areas. This not only covers the core aspects of a subject, for example, Art being used only to teach Art and Design related skills, but rather how to use subjects such as Drama, Art, Media Studies and Literature to develop broader and more meaningful learning experiences spread across the curriculum.
However, the outcomes expected from School Placements seem well thought out and insightful on paper but are poorly executed and managed in practice. Better Mental Health Provision and better communication between Schools, Tutors and the School of Education are needed – transparent conversations between students, mentors and tutors would have made the learning experience more enjoyable and may have led to confidence growth and better academic outcomes. My experience would have been made better by transparent conversation and procedures that not only hold students accountable but also their school tutors and mentors. Students (and staff) need better mental health support and need better and more transparent procedures to ensure all parties are behaving in a professional manner and that no student is silenced due to their ‘need to pass’.
Overall my experience with UOfG was positive, however, there is room for improvement regarding student mental health, work/life balance and student/tutor relationships.
View moreI studied Education at the University of Glasgow and spent the whole year on an online course. The advantage was that I could watch the teacher’s lectures over and over again, the disadvantage was that it drastically reduced the communication with the teacher, because of the large number of online messages, and the school’s email replies were not timely, often I had to wait for days to get a reply, and sometimes I could not find the correct corresponding department to solve the problem, which also took a lot of energy and This took a lot of time and efforts
View moreStudying Theatre Studies at the University Of Glasgow has allowed me to learn about several dramaturgical and Theatrical theories ranging from semiotics all the way back to Ancient Theatre. This course for the first half takes you on a journey through the past of theatre and why it is important, it involves politics and the mundane every day to show how greatly theatre spans to our own lives. I would recommend this course to those interested in the way theatre works from the backgrounds and the ideas which stem from typical theatre that we see on a stage today! Furthermore the staff and Convenors are always there to lend a helping hand many of them hold office hours or will stay behind on seminars to answer those burning questions. All around a brilliant course and a decent workload.
View moreMy programme was very practical. We did not undertake any kind of tests, we were graded based on our assignments. For me, this was a con, since for most subjects each student ended up learning something different. However, this increased our creativity and pushed us to do more independent research. The subjects were overall intertwined and the teaching staff was very qualified. I very much enjoyed my time here.
View moreGreat university, provides excellent academic service! Professors are supportive and helpful. Non-academic services are also great! They have an international family network, which is helpful for students with family.
