I am one of the first five people on the course as it was launched in September 2021. My first year so far has been fantastic – my department (CGES) is very supportive, all academics are super approachable and there is always someone to ask for help if needed. The course itself is very interesting – it gives you the opportunity to go either in the direction of physical ocean sciences or marine biology which is great, especially for students who feel unsure of where to go next. What I love most about Marine Science is how interdisciplinary it is and the career prospect it gives you at the end of your bachelor’s as you can go in literally any marine-related field.
I am based at the Penryn Campus in Cornwall, very close to the sea which gives you plenty of opportunities to surf and socialise at the beach. Student life is really good as well – you get to meet a variety of people as we are two universities which share one campus, facilities and accommodation. You get the more academic type from the University of Exeter and the artsy people from Falmouth University which is a great diversity of people! Falmouth and Penryn are small, cute, seaside towns with decent nightlife and lots of independent shops and restaurants. I thoroughly recommend coming here!
