Are you passionate about the business and finance sector? Do you follow the national and international news? Then, an Economics degree is the answer. It has always been one of the most sought-after degrees amongst youth.
Economics degrees are designed to tackle all the issues that have an impact on financial situations, ranging from production to how resources are used. Candidates are trained to understand how the economy suffers fluctuations based on the market’s needs and wants followed by the market’s supply and demand.
By far one of the most crucial elements is that economics is divided into microeconomics and macroeconomic. Microeconomics deals with the economic behaviour at an individual level (companies, buyers, sellers and others), whilst macroeconomics illustrates the bigger picture, on a national or global scale (unemployment, economic growth, inflation and so on).
Having an economics degree increases anyone’s chances to find a job, regardless of the field. This is mainly due to the fact that graduates hold many transferable abilities, such as analytical and problem-solving skills, that are suitable for any career.
A study made by the London School of Economics and Political Science showed that graduates from an economics course have a starting salary of £33,000 per year. Having a job in the field right after graduation is a major positive aspect and comes with a lot of opportunities for career advancement.
Economics degrees are usually a three years commitment and sometimes are offered as part of a joint degree. This means that Economics can be studied along with another subject such as engineering, management, law, computer science and others.
This degree can be found either as a Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Bachelor of Arts (BA). The BSc focuses more on economical theory and statistical techniques, while BA is combined with social sciences and qualitative modules.
I think this Edinburgh is a great university where students receive a lot of support especially within the School of Economics. Professors and lecturers are very professional and take student feedback seriously in order to improve the quality of teaching. The campus is located in a great area of Edinburgh where there is lots to do and there are many places where students can study.
View moreI started my degree in 2021, when covid restrictions were still in action. I loved the place as soon as I went, the professors in economics are helpful, however some are not the best lecturers. I would still recommend anyone who wants to study Economics to come to this university.
View moreAs a second year student, I would say that there are great facilities for study, eating and entertainment as well as wonderful and helpful staff across campus. With its ranking as a top 15 university in 2023, I’d say that the University of Edinburgh was an excellent choice, and is certainly reputable and renowned internationally for its quality education. Although the cost of living can be quite high, it is a very charming city to live in.
View moreIt is hard to give an accurate, unbiased review of my experience so far. I have had a full 2 semesters fully online, with only in person tutorials, which were lackluster. The content itself from my course was interesting, and the facilities of the University are great, but there is simply a lack of interaction with professors.
View moreThe University of Edinburgh is such an amazing place to study – and you realise how lucky you are only some years later. It is recognised as one of the best Universities in the UK/Europe/World. But above all, it has an amazing social and intellectual vibe with a very laid-back
