2nd year BIMM Manchester
This course is clearly not worth the 9k a year it costs to take it and I would not recommend it to anyone else who may be interested in taking it. Firstly the course content was subpar and was very restrictive in terms of creativity, I believe that independent study from online materials would have covered the same amount and for minimal cost.
Secondly the support and leadership from those above was sorely lacking and I felt hindered by the poor communication over timetable changes and feedback as well as module delivery. This negatively impacted my performance. For example during first year , I was involved in a disagreement with my tutor over theory concepts and my input over this was not considered and this was never resolved in a professional manner and subsequently affected the teacher-student relationship.
I also believe that the culture at Bimm is not centered towards the student, which is definitely a reason to be cautious about taking this course.
Overall I would recommend avoiding investing time and money into this course as most course content can be learned online and the leadership and teaching is definitely not worth 9k
View moreThe university has been such a supportive university and the lectures go above and beyond for their students. Such a great place to connect and network with different people in different courses. Honestly it’s been amazing
View moreIn my experience, BIMM London is below average.
The facilities are great for recording music and practicing. It is a good place to start your music career and to get familiar with the studio environment. The student and networking events are good for meeting people that have similar interests and for collaborative work. Though because of the area , Fulham, these events can be very expensive and not so student friendly. The area is also quite disconnected transport wise.
Student support was very weak, sometimes taking up to 15 days to respond. Also, with the university being so small, it would often get crowded.
Overall the teaching was good in my experience, but there is variety in the quality of learning depending on the teacher.
I wouldn’t recommend BIMM London as the University is lacking in many areas that can spoil the overall experience.
BIMM institute is an amazing option for any music student that wants to take their craft to the next level! They provide amazing facilities including a venue that the students can use to perform. Students can request masterclasses from industry professionals. Many Alumni have gone on to work in the music industry achieving amazing feats. A few examples of this would be: George Ezra, Fontaines DC, Ella Mai and many others. Overall BIMM is a great choice for aspiring musicians to develop their careers and meet like-minded individuals.
View moreDuring my time at BIMM so far, I have discovered many secret skills I possess, as well as developed new abilities with training from the exquisite faculty members. the support at uni is unmatched with all issues being resolved quickly and with care.
View moreAlthough it is a good university overall with amazing musicians as tutors, sometimes it lacks a bit of a “push” to motivate students – obviously, this also has to come from the students themselves but I believe BIMM needs to have this more into consideration.
Whilst the facilities are good, there’s very limited space for rehearsals and for instrumentalists (especially drummers) to practice considering the number of students.
View moreBIMM is a university that has great potential. There are lots of very talented lecturers. It is not, however, an experience I would recommend. The actual taught material was very weak and was very similar across all three years. Getting replies from tutors was always a very long process and the response was rarely worth the wait.
View moreBIMM is a well-connected, multi-faceted industry collective with a variety of degrees and opportunities to engage with. The problem I find, as an international student not from Europe, is that a lot of that experience is tailored towards people with different work restrictions. As an international student, you have to prioritise permanent employment post graduation and while BIMM is making strides forward in that pursuit, you will be largely on your own in that mission. It’s difficult to engage in more creative fields like performance degrees or production degrees when the potential of getting non-freelance employment is small, so it may be a case of diversifying your work experience during university enough, so that you can find employment in your field later. This is something every International student applying for a creative degree in the UK should keep in mind.
View moreBIMM Bristol is a great uni if you are looking to joining the music industry after graduating but that’s it… it is a very industry based university, note how it’s based in a musical city and you’re taught by industry professionals so it’s very biased. It is actually a really good uni the lectures are amazing and the uni itself has such a great a vibe to it but just like everything it has it’s faults… The only major faults I feel to mention is that 1) It doesn’t feel like I’m at uni, I feel like I’m at college. We don’t have a typical university campus we just have two buildings on either side of the city centre where our lesson will be across. 2) When it comes to academic lessons we don’t have desks to write on, we have to write on our laps or bring a laptop in which is not great because I love writing notes but it’s soo uncomfortable having to rest on my knees and do that. 3) They tell you to book practice rooms and do a lot of band practice but there are very limited spaces to do so. These 3 points are the only real problems I’ve faced at BIMM Bristol and besides that, the staff are lovely and so helpful! Student support is honestly the best which is nice for anyone that is struggling. If you are looking to go into the music industry after graduating BIMM is the place to be because they have so many links and also provide with so many opportunities to network.
