The program had little diversity in terms of student body. But the modules were good. The teachers were competent and demanding, which was nice. Moreover, the campus and the classroom environment had been cordial.
View moreMy program had some of the most professional academics that have taught me a lot. The campus site is beautiful and simply looks like the best place for learning. Furthermore, the mix of international students is amazing to see.
View moreSussex University has great staff and the majority of tutors are passionate about what they teach as well as the experience and success of their students. The English course, in particular, has an excellent syllabus, particularly in contemporary literature, queer theory, and feminist works.
View moreI would recommend sussed for humanities and global studies subjects. I really enjoyed the variety of modules offered, particularly courses involving decolonising the curriculum.
Would be 5 stars but my year abroad was cancelled twice so I’m bitter about it.
For the most part, I loved studying English at the University of Sussex. The wide variety of modules to choose from allowed the course to fit my personal interests, meaning I was never bored. If you are someone who enjoys flexibility with their course, and an ability to tailor your studies to your personal interest, then I would certainly recommend studying English at the University of Sussex. However, the overall experience did not come without its drawbacks. COVID-19 has been an extremely difficult time for everyone, and students are no exception to that. The main issue in my final year at Sussex was a feeling of a lack of support during what was the most important time of my academic career. When writing my dissertation I received help and supervision a total of three times via Zoom. The help felt a little rushed, and I was very much alone in the preparation and writing of this long piece of work. Independence is certainly important and you need to have the ability to work alone in this degree, but the lack of consistent support did detract from some of the love that I once had for this University.
