My university is one of the best in Turkey and has ranked among the top 300 universities in the world. Along with its large campus, it provides an environment where highly educated academics and the most enlightened young individuals of the country come together. Studying here has always made me happy, as it continually pushes me along a path of personal development. With an estimated student population of 30,000, my university has created a unique culture that has been passed down to us over the years.
At this institution, everyone is equal, free, and intellectual. However, there are some disadvantages, but these are not related to the individuals who study or teach here. Given that Turkey is a politically volatile country, the current conservative government, which imposes its policies on citizens, leads to the marginalization of our university, which is predominantly left-wing. In recent political events, students like us were arrested, detained, and silenced during protests, which is our constitutional right. This led to the initiation of an academic boycott.
The reason I mention these disadvantages is because METU is located in Turkey, a country with a politically active environment. Nevertheless, considering its advantages and the quality of education it provides, I highly recommend my university to everyone.
