Overall, I am satisfied with my choice of studies.
The psychology program is well organized. During the first year, you have all introductory courses to the majority of fields in Psychology so you can become more familiar with what suits you the most. Then during the second and third year, you can personalize your study path and basically choose the courses you want to study. Most professors have extensive experience with teaching so the courses are properly taught. Moreover, I am glad about the level of difficulty of my studies. I can say that If you are motivated to study, you will definitely pass the courses. However, here, it’s difficult to get a high grade for the course, compared to other Universities in the Netherlands, because of the strict grading rules. On the one hand, it can be seen as an advantage because it motivates you more, but on the other hand, it’s a big disadvantage for people who wants to have a good GPA to apply for a good Master’s program.
In terms of the student nightlife, in Tilburg it’s difficult to have one 🙂 However, the city is nicely connected to the larger cities in which you can find more opportunities to spend your free time.
More about the University itself, the campus is compact and well-kept. Students have access to supermarkets, restaurants, and a variety of coffee points (you need a lot of coffee during examination weeks :)). There are places to go for a walk because the campus is situated next to the forest. All university staff treat students with respect and always try to help as much as possible. Of course, there is still room for improvement.
1. I am an international student so it was a real challenge to find the proper accommodation in Tilburg, which would not cost a ridiculous amount of money. There is nothing like a student house that is supported by the University, so you need to rent a place only from private owners.
2. During the examination period students lack places to study. Nevertheless, there are several buildings provided to students for studying purposes, but still, that is not enough for the number of students here.
3. Quite often my exam was scheduled during Saturdays. Personally, I think it’s not fully professional to interfere with students’ free time. However, the whole examination process is always carried out properly.
To conclude, it’s nice to study here! I believe this University will prepare me well for my future carrier path.
