What Is an International Business Degree?

Globalisation strengthens the connection between companies from all over the world. It is time people understand the importance of international business.

International business degrees are shaped to give students practical knowledge about different business management practices from all over the world. In addition, candidates are prepared for business careers abroad or in organisations that are engaged in business on a global scale.

Moreover, international business is vital in order to understand different cultures and mindsets and ultimately become a global citizen.

Benefits of an International Business Degree

A degree in International Business prepares you for a job in a culturally diverse business environment, which means that any graduate can benefit from opportunities in any country.

The advantage of an International Business course is that you are highly employable for most industries since the majority of skills acquired are transferable.

Candidates studying international business will also gain information and insight about the difficulties of starting and growing businesses from different countries, something which is of utmost importance for anyone who wants to make their business thrive.

International Business Degree Structure

International Business is usually a three-year commitment, depending on each university. Lately, there are institutions which offer the possibility of having a ‘sandwich course’, which basically enables the candidates to work abroad for one year in the industry, as part of their studies.

The purpose of the ‘sandwich course’ is to encourage students to step outside their comfort zone and work in a different culture and environment. In this way, they will understand other mentalities, as well as gain relevant working experience in the field.

    Surrounded by cultures

Following the program of International Business at the Hague University of Applied Sciences means being surrounded by many different cultures. The university is very popular among international students and teachers. It’s wonderful to experience how we all learn from each other. This is definitely the reason why I enjoy this program so much. The teachers are sharing their work experience and supporting students to succeed. The program itself ensures that students get a strong foundation to succeed in the business world. Besides that, the International Business program also offers plenty of opportunities to specialize in a certain area, such as sustainable business or business in Asia. Overall, I have the feeling that I am well prepared to become a successful businesswoman after following this program.

    One of my best decisions

I am currently enrolled in International Business and I couldn’t have asked for a better program, really. Not only do I have the best lecturers and colleagues, but I am exposed to a large number of career opportunities during my studies. I have an internship coming up, which I still have to arrange, but generally, the learning process is hands-on and truly teaches you to think outside of the box! The campus is great, the international community is strong and there is always something to do between classes!

Hey, I am thinking of studying international business at Hague university this year. I am looking for a Bachelor of Arts in business as math is not my strong suit and am trying to figure out what level of maths is required for the course or how difficult it might be. I studied a year of business at Erasmus and it was mostly advanced calculus and lots of accounting that I struggled with. I am looking for a BA business course in the hopes of finding one where the math consists of statistics, probability and algebra. I can’t find anything specific about the type of math on The Hague website, could you tell me more about it? Thanks :)

Being a part of THUAS - what an adventure !!!!

My overall experience as a student at THUAS was amazing. Although the programme International Business was quite general in the first year, fortunately, in the second year, we could choose the major and go into more depth of the study. What is great about majors is that there are numerous ones so the student is not limited by its choices. If I look back at the list of the courses, I believe some of them could be taught together and did not need to have a separate course for it. But in general, all the courses and teaching materials were up to date so everything we learnt was relevant for the future.

Secondly, lecturers are very interesting, funny professionals who are always ready to support the student no matter what. Their friendly approach encourages students to not be afraid of asking questions or communicating with someone in a more senior position, for example, lecturer and student.

Thirdly, the university itself provides various opportunities for the students to connect more with the school, its members or to the city itself. It has a gym, big library, restaurant and cafeteria, etc. The school is rich in facilities so the student is not missing anything.

Regarding the hobbies, personally, I was a member of 2 student associations where I met and had a chance to work with amazing students from other studies. For example, as a student ambassador, I was able to represent our university at several study fairs abroad like in Vietnam, the Czech republic or Luxembourg. I was also very lucky with the people I worked with because both my own class and the associations were very international. However, I heard about some classes where there were a few international students and the rest were Dutch.

Lastly, maybe the biggest downside of the whole experience is finding accommodation. Even though the school has partners through whom the students can rent the rooms, the number of available rooms is too low compared to the prospective students. And due to this reason, many of them end up struggling to find a room and have to live far from the school.

To sum up my whole experience, I had so much fun being there, had a chance to work with great fellow students, learnt from the experts in their fields and get to know more about the Dutch culture. The university is growing and developing each day and if anyone is not sure whether study here or not, I can only tell you that you will not regret your decision.

    It is a challenging programme!

Well, the IB Diploma program is really hard indeed. I am a third-year IB student, I cannot stress enough how the toughness of the curriculum depends on your individual motivation and determination. The IB is made for the masses and depends only on how you organize your time and meet the deadlines given by the university. There is no specific time of being busy, it will completely last the whole semester even during holidays because there are always exams the week after each break. But, if you are one who manages time very well and is very disciplined by nature, doing well in IB shouldn’t be too hard for you.
Hope this review will be helpful

Normal for the Netherlands but UK is better

I’m studying at The Hague University with the International Business program. In my opinion, it’s really up to you to be able to succeed and finish the program. In general, I don’t think the lecturers are as inspiring as those I have experienced with UK lecturers. This comparison is based on the nature of my job, as I am working at an EdTech company with a strong presence in the UK. Collaborating with UK lecturers is a part of my job and setting up business simulations in their classes gives me the impression that studying IB in the UK somewhat has better value.
