Generally speaking the education at Leiden University is good, the professors are qualified and the study material is interesting. In my field, History, the programme allows for adequate specialisation and has enough free space to choose your interests. The topic I want to go more into however is different. The University of Leiden allows students to participate in and shape the policy of the University and the different faculties. The student council is taken seriously by the board members and there is also a student member in all faculty boards. This, including with several other student bodies, this allows the students that want to, to really be a part of the decision-making process and have an influence on how the university works. Topics ranging from study programs to (re)building of facilities plans are discussed with the students. This provides valuable experience to students that are not just theoretical and shows them they are taken seriously.
