I studied at The University of Medical Sciences and Technology (UMST) in Sudan, and it was a highly enriching experience both academically and personally. UMST is considered the best university in Sudan, offering a modern learning environment with up-to-date curricula in the medical field, along with well-equipped laboratories that provided me with strong practical experience.
One of the university’s main strengths is its European-inspired academic system for teaching and assessment, despite being located in Sudan. This makes it a preferred choice for many Sudanese students who have lived in European countries. The university is internationally recognized, particularly in Europe, and the academic year consistently begins in September.
Despite major challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, political unrest, and conflicts, the university continued its educational programs through online learning and even opened branches in Rwanda and Saudi Arabia to help students complete their studies without interruption.
I particularly appreciated how theoretical knowledge is linked with practical clinical training, which gave me a strong foundation and confidence in handling medical cases during practical training. The faculty is highly skilled and supportive, providing guidance academically and personally.
Personally, my time at UMST helped me develop research and critical thinking skills, as well as build a valuable professional network with colleagues and professors from diverse backgrounds.
The only drawback of the university is its relatively high cost compared to the general economic situation in Sudan, but this is the only limitation I experienced.
Despite some academic challenges and the pressures of commitments, my experience at UMST was a turning point in my life, and I am grateful for all that I learned there.
