A business cannot survive if its products are not marketed in the proper way. Luckily for all the businesses out there, the number of candidates wanting to pursue a marketing career is growing tremendously.
The aim of this degree is to help students anticipate, manage, and satisfy customers’ needs and wants. By doing so, they will be able to effectively communicate the benefits of any business product to the targeted market.
Due to the fact that marketing is a complex industry, which tackles many areas ranging from market research to advertising and promotion, this degree focuses on all parts of the process before concentrating on a particular area of study.
Good news for marketing graduates! If you did not know yet, marketing is an essential aspect of all types of businesses, from all sectors of activity. Thus, all of them rely on marketers to promote and sell their products. A high market demand comes with many job opportunities available.
According to Labor Department Findings, graduates with a marketing degree can earn 98% more per hour than the ones working in the industry without having a specialised degree.
Furthermore, students are equipped with transferable skills, such as excellent communication abilities, strategic thinking, planning, data analysis and so on, that can be used in other industries too.
Marketing degrees can be studied either as Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BSc). The major difference lies in the presence of more scientific and technological aspects, which are commonly seen in a BSc rather than a BA.
Like most degrees, marketing courses last between three and four years, depending on the university. However, there are institutions which give students the possibility to do a two-year associate’s degree – also called a ‘foundation’ degree.
Even if graduating from both degrees qualifies candidates to work in this industry, a Bachelor degree has higher chances to lead you to well-paid jobs.
I am currently pursuing a Masters in Market Research and Consumer Behaviour at IE University, which is renowned as one of the best colleges in Europe (Madrid, Spain). Through my program, I have gained a comprehensive understanding of various research methodologies and their application in real-world settings. I have had the opportunity to work on diverse types of market research, including ethnographic research, neuromarketing, qualitative studies, and quantitative analyses. I was a part of the winning team of a market research challenge by Nielsen in my university. These experiences have equipped me with the necessary skills to conduct in-depth consumer insights and contribute valuable strategic recommendations.
During my academic journey, I have developed a strong proficiency in designing and executing research studies, collecting and analysing data, and presenting findings to stakeholders. I have honed my abilities to gather qualitative insights through methods such as focus groups and interviews, while also leveraging statistical tools for quantitative analysis. Additionally, I have a deep appreciation for the ethical considerations and best practices that underpin the field of market research, ensuring the integrity and validity of the data collected.
IE has been an incredible experience for me. The quality of professors and the diversity is 2 things that I would like to highest most besides the fact that I believe this Course truly prepares you for the future.
View moreIE university offers well-crafted programs. The courses were taught by industry professionals giving real world insight, advice and opportunities. Beyond the classroom, the university offers a wealth of opportunities to network and learn to students who have the initiative.
Courses are demanding with a lot of group work so it is essential to be able to work well with other people who are not similar to you.
View moreI think the program management team could have been more organized and customer centric.
Professors don’t provide feedback, which is the whole point of school.
Other masters had projects with companies which was really cool, and wished it would had been the same for us.
Our career advisor only helpful if you were European or wanted to work at a consultancy or agency not a client.
IE offers you the opportunity to learn from the best. The team of professors are very well prepared people, who are passionate about what they do and feel the same passion for sharing it with their students.
They are people who are professionally the best in their own fields, who take teaching seriously and know that they are preparing the generation of the future.
Personally, I think I had very good teachers, from whom I learned a lot and I will surely continue learning.
View moreWhen I finished my BA in Interior Architecture I wasn’t sure of the path I wanted to take. When I discovered the Master in Visual and Digital Media at IE I knew it would help me learn and understand new skills necessary to move my career in a certain direction.
View moreI’ve had the best experience at IE. The classes are great and I’ve learned so much but most importantly the friends I’ve made. I love how the school is so diverse and international, it has made me meet people from everywhere.
View moreI have enjoyed my time so far in the MVDM program over the past 8 months. My classmates are amazing and definitely encompass the multicultural experience that IE advertises (even more so than the IMBA). Some of the classes are amazing as well (graphic design with Bea Hernandez-Canut was a blessing and I would demand a third term class from her if possible), some were less than great and ultimately felt unnecessary (I can only hear about storytelling and what a story is so many times).
One specific pain point for me was the careers services. I believe they are armed and ready for certain career paths but for me who was trying to transition into entertainment (streaming services), I was told to keep searching with very little assistance. This was profoundly disappointing as I was told the network of IE was all encompassing.
Another thing: the wifi in the buildings was shockingly bad – a lot of money was spent to attend school here and something like this is unacceptable.
Ultimately, I believe I learned a lot, had a great experience and met some truly amazing people. Despite this, IE certainly has some things to improve on.
View moreAfter doing a bachelor’s in business management I wanted to do a more creative master’s. When I heard about the master’s in Visual and Digital Media I knew it was for me. I honestly would have never known that I would be learning so many new skills, especially with the adobe suite, WordPress, photography, content creation and brand strategy. I personally loved my time at IE University. If I had to do to it again, I would!
View moreI loved all the creative classes we had. Especially the ones where we learned by doing. These were courses such as Photography & Video Production, Graphic Design and Entertainment and Media Production among other ones. I loved how prepared and experiences the majority of the teachers are. I also love that at IE teachers are always accessible and that you don’t feel like just a number. This program was extremely practical, which made the learning process faster. The one thing I would change about the program is the networking exposure they have with the creative industry. I think it lacked many opportunities that other masters did get. I would have loved getting filmmakers, film directors/producers, creative directors, directors of photography, and art directors from companies or small agencies. In my opinion, it lacked the creative agency spectrum at 100%. I hope they integrate more creatives into the networking events to give the master a better experience. Loved teachers such as Bea, Albertina, Eduardo and Brian was a great professor too.
View moreI think this is a great business school if you want to make a shift in your career, the courses are comprehensive although I think the more business-y classes are a bit weak and lax. Some teachers also don’t have a good english level which puts a stump in some lectures.
