What is a Management degree?

A Management degree builds a strong foundation in a wide variety of fields including business, finance, economics and marketing. It develops students’ understanding of business practices, structures, business theory, business strategy and research as well as global economies and financial markets. Doing a Management Degree also allows students to gain skills that enable them to work with financial and numerical data effectively.

Management degrees cover different managerial roles, such as Human Resource (HR) management, hospitality management, innovation management, operations management, etc. They can be specialized into one of the areas mentioned above or follow a more general approach that covers most of these areas.

The range of management degrees is huge and includes Business Management, Management, Marketing Management, etc. They are predominantly offered in the business departments/business schools/management schools of different universities.

Benefits of a Management degree

One of the main benefits of this degree is that Management is a broad discipline, which keeps students’ career options open.

Management degrees could have a very practical focus, which is an opportunity for students to gain experience in the process of completing their degree before having started their professional careers. Management courses usually offer work placements and practical modules, which include business simulations and business creation in a simulated environment. Acquiring practical experience through these opportunities could make students stand out from the crowd in the job market once they graduate. Research-oriented Management degrees also exist for those who prefer the theoretical aspects of such a degree. Most courses, however, have established a good balance between theory and practice in order to meet the needs of all students.

Management degrees also prepare students to serve the managerial role across a wide range of areas, including HR management, hospitality management, innovation management, operations management, etc. Students can specialize in one particular area or focus on gaining knowledge across all of these areas thanks to the high availability of different management courses.

Additionally, there is a high demand for management professionals in the contemporary business world. Therefore, taking a management course is an opportunity for students to kick-start their careers and occupy a higher position in the organizational hierarchy.

management degree Structure

Management courses usually begin by introducing students to different areas covered by the managerial role, such as organizational management, business environment, statistics, accounting and finance, business growth, etc. After the first year, institutions allow students to explore the management discipline into more depth by delivering specialized modules and offering optional modules, which enable students to choose subjects that interest them the most and are most relevant to their career aspirations.

    One of my best experiences

I have started to study here last year during my Master Studies and it was great! Truly, one of my best campus ever. They have everything inside even a supermarket. The students Council is pretty cool and they have a lot of activities to meet new people. More than recommended if you are looking for a friendly campus in Barcelona.

    University lacks modernization

It’s a highly competitive university and is considered one of the best in Spain. However, I believe during my experience at UAB, I thought that despite considered so “prestigious” it is lacking modernization.
In some ways it felt like the continuation of high school. You attend classes, have your books, hand in some projects and then exams. I didn’t appreciate the fact that projects were hardly a 10-20% of each course and they depended heavily in your exam results. I felt like sometimes the system was a bit unfair. If you did not perform very well in an exam, you could have failed the entire class.
Also, even if there is a digital campus, I wish they could utilize it better and give more material. In some classes, you rely on what is delivered during class! If you miss a class, you feel like you are left behind and there are no slides or material to be found anywhere online. I felt that professors were not that involved with international students compared to locals and were not really willing to help outside office hours. The library is super cool, however I was hoping for more facilities for students even though the campus is huge!

Something really negative is that the campus is really far from the city center in Bellatera. The only accommodation you can find is on the campus which is very old, and not convenient. Otherwise, you’d need at least 30-40 mins from city center.

The UAB city - Master in events

I am currently studying a Master in organization of events at the UAB, the beauty of this site is that it seems like a small town, you have everything you need around the university and the residence. It has direct connection to Barcelona, in 20 – 25 ‘you plant in Plaza Cataluña. The civic square and its green areas invite to study abroad taking advantage of the good climate of Barcelona, and interact with people; At the end of the day it is a campus that houses many specialties and facilitates the relationship between different careers promoting greater learning.

In the other races I do not know exactly how it works, but in my master they gave us the opportunity to meet many professionals in the sector. Our tutor was always very active in recommending events and fairs that we could attend to learn more or look for work. It also has an internship program and every year they give the opportunity to work with a wide range of companies in the sector.
In addition, it is a very international course, the classes are in Spanish, but every year people from outside are enrolled, which enriches much more.

The handicap of the course is that many things are played but none in much detail, perhaps I would have liked to know a little more about all the typical mistakes that usually occur in events, in order to learn from it. A part of this, the deal has always been very close and always willing to help and adapt to your needs, which is valued very much and more in a big city like Barcelona, where sometimes you are just a number.

    Broadened my horizons

UAB is a very prestigious university where I took a Masters in International Business Management.
The course is taught in both Spanish and English by very well-known professors.
The lectures are very easy to follow and very practical.
Besides the studies, we had chance to visit some companies to learn their business models.

UAB is the best choice if you want to experience an international education environment as well as an energetic pace of life in Barcelona.
