As a former student of Nelson Mandela University, I can confidently say that the lecturers played a pivotal role in shaping both my academic journey and personal development. Their interactions with students went beyond traditional teaching; they were approachable, supportive, and genuinely invested in our success. Many took the time to provide one-on-one guidance, encouraged open dialogue in class, and created a learning environment where every student felt seen and heard. Their passion for their subjects was contagious, and their willingness to mentor us through challenges—academic or personal—made a lasting impact. The culture of Ubuntu was evident in how they treated us with dignity and respect, reminding us that education is not just about knowledge, but about growing as compassionate, responsible individuals. Looking back, it was their commitment and warmth that made my time at Nelson Mandela University truly transformative.

What made this experience even more fulfilling was the university’s support for student tutors. Regular training sessions, access to academic resources, and the emphasis on mentorship created a structured yet flexible framework for me to grow in my role. I learned to communicate effectively, adapt to different learning styles, and foster a sense of curiosity in others—all skills that I know will benefit me in any professional setting.

The university environment is friendly and you adapt to it very quickly. Students uphold their university values and it was nice to witness that. As a students you get to witness different actives to be able to socialise with your classmates and you are also given a chance to interact with your lectures if you struggle to understand something.
