We need more practicals!!!

North-West University offers a solid academic foundation and has some excellent lecturers who bring real expertise into the classroom. There are also opportunities for growth in research and community engagement, which is valuable.

That said, one area where NWU could really improve is in giving students more hands-on, practical experiences. Structured internship programs, stronger industry-linked projects, and exchange opportunities abroad would give students a much-needed head start when entering the job market. While the environment is supportive, sometimes the focus feels too much on theory, and not enough on preparing students for the realities of work.

The university has great potential, it just needs to bridge that gap between academic knowledge and practical application to fully boost its students.

Thank you for your feedback and for recognising the strengths of our programme – particularly the solid academic foundation, the dedication of our expert lecturers, and the supportive learning environment we strive to foster.
At NWU, we are committed to continuous improvement and value constructive suggestions that help us better serve our students. We appreciate the recommendation for more hands-on experience, and this is an area we are actively enhancing.
To ensure our qualifications remain relevant in a fast-changing industry, the School is currently benchmarking all programmes against international standards, including the globally respected Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) guidelines. This process helps us align our content with the latest global best practices in computing and IT education.
In addition, we are strengthening our industry collaborations to ensure greater real-world exposure for our students. This includes efforts to more deeply integrate practical learning and work-integrated experiences into our teaching and learning approach – so that our students not only graduate with knowledge but also with skills that empower them to thrive in the dynamic IT sector.
Thank you once again for your valuable input. Together, we continue to build a future-focused learning environment that prepares our students to make meaningful impact.
