A Solid Foundation with Room for Growth

My overall opinion of the National University of Lesotho (NUL) is positive. It provided me with a strong academic foundation and a truly authentic university experience. The campus environment at Roma is beautiful and peaceful, which is great for focusing on studies.

    What I liked:

    · Quality of Education: The lecturers in my faculty were highly knowledgeable and genuinely cared about student success. The curriculum was rigorous and relevant.
    · Strong Community: There’s a real sense of community at NUL. You build strong friendships and connections that last beyond your time there.
    · Affordability: Compared to many other universities in the region, NUL is relatively affordable, making higher education accessible.
    · Campus Life: The scenic setting in the Roma Valley is a major plus. There are also various student clubs and societies that add to the experience.

    What I disliked:

    · Administrative Challenges: The administrative processes can sometimes be slow and bureaucratic, which was frustrating when dealing with registration or student records.
    · Infrastructure: Some facilities, like the library and certain lecture halls, are functional but could benefit from modernization and more resources.
    · Internet Connectivity: The Wi-Fi on campus was often unreliable, which made research and accessing online materials difficult at times.

I would recommend the National University of Lesotho, especially for students seeking a quality, affordable education within Lesotho and the Southern African region. It’s important for prospective students to be prepared for some administrative patience and to be proactive in their studies. It’s a university that rewards resilience and offers a unique and valuable experience.

    Faculty of Law experience

As a Law student at the National University of Lesotho, my experience has nurtured a willingness to learn and explore the law at a more personal level. There is a strong emphasis on foundational legal principles, which are taught by a mix of seasoned academics and practicing legal professionals. This combination provides not just theoretical knowledge but also valuable insights into the practical realities of the legal profession in Lesotho and beyond.

The faculty of law, in my opinion, is the university’s greatest asset. Faculty professors are knowledgeable and, most importantly, accessible and willing to mentor students outside of lecture hours.
The programme goes beyond textbooks. Activities like moot courts and legal clinics stand out, offering hands-on experience in argumentation, research, and client interaction, which is invaluable for any aspiring lawyer.
The campus fosters a close-knit community. Studying law is intense, and having a supportive network of peers makes the challenging workload manageable and even enjoyable.

Like many public universities, NUL faces challenges with resources. Students sometimes need to be proactive in seeking out supplementary materials beyond the library’s collection. Some administrative processes can be slow, requiring patience and follow-up from students.

Overall, I would highly recommend NUL, especially for law. It provides a rigorous and respected legal education that prepares you for a career in the field. If you are a self-motivated student who is willing to engage with professors and seize the practical opportunities available, you will receive a strong foundation for your future.

    Academic excellence

It is a very good university with a good structure however the problem is that the it barely updates courses that meet current needs. We are in an era where technology is at the core of every discipline and I belive the university is still a bit behind when it comes to enhancing the curriculum to meet the currents needs in the global market.

The National University of Lesotho is the Best University in Lesotho. What I like about the University is that lectures do not spoon feed students as a results most students are able to do their own research projects. However there is a lot of serial harassment that is being done by lectures towards students.
