1) My Opinion
I attended the University of Zimbabwe soon after independence in 1980. It was, and remains, a great learning institution, which churned out quality graduates who continue to make Zimbabwe proud across the world.
2) What I liked/disliked
I definitely liked the learning environment, the quality of the Lecturers and the prestige that came with being a UZ student and graduate. Firstly I did a BA Hons in History, then a Post Graduate Certificate in Education, and finally a Masters in Business Administration. Everything went well, though challenging!
3) Would I recommend it?
Definitely as the first high academic institution in Zimbabwe, the UZ still carries the attributes of a centre for academic excellence. UZ trained Engineers, Medical Doctors, Veterinary Doctors, Social workers and graduates from other disciplines continue to shine in Zimbabwe and across the world. While Zimbabwe faces its own economic challenges, the UZ remains a pillar of academic excellence, and I would always recommend it.
The University is World Class. They don’t compromise quality for anything, what has to be done has to be done. It is in the Top 15 in the latest University rankings for Africa. It is the first University in Zimbabwe having been established during the colonial era.
