Nowadays, more and more students start to pursue a degree in modern languages. A modern languages degree is not only related to learning a new language but also understand the cultural context of the countries in which the language is spoken.
Candidates studying a modern languages course will also be given knowledge and experience of the political and historical contexts of a particular region. On top of that, the use of literary texts and media will develop not only their skills but also their perception about learning a different language.
Due to the increased globalisation, there is a high demand for modern languages graduates. The ability to communicate in another language and understand its background is a major advantage.
Modern Language courses are designed to give students transferable skills, which can be applied in all areas of activity. Candidates will have high communication skills, accompanied by data collection and interpreting skills, which are appreciated by employers, regardless of your career choice.
Modern Languages Degrees are four years commitments, out of which one semester or a year should be spent abroad – in a partnered institution. This gives students the opportunity to practice the language they are studying and understand a new culture.
Modern Languages is a degree that can be studied either as a single honour degree or a joint honour degree. This gives students the ability to combine modern language with another course such as politics, literature, history and many others.
I like my college a lot. I feel happy there and will recommend it to my future children. What I like most is the teachers and the classes. Every Friday we have a get-together with college students.
View moreThe classes were too big and the curriculum should be updated more frequently. Professors tried their best, but some were not the greatest. Choosing your schedule is easy and offers more flexiblity. It’s well located.
View moreThis bachelors course has bad professors and no master’s to continue the studies. Everyone has to change institutions to keep studying and the classes we have are the same for everybody else, por instance, English classes are the same for business students as well as literature students which means it is not made for this particular program, it’s just a general English class. But there’s many critics to be made.
View moreThe course of “Línguas Aplicadas – Relações Empresariais” performed below all expectations. The subjects are not focused on preparing the student for the work market, instead, it seems as if you were learning languages and cultures. Lacks teachers who have experience in modern business, so they do not give you any tools for entering the job market. As this is a course in Universidade do Porto, one of the best in the country, it is, without doubt, a big disappointment. I would not recommend, it unless it goes under big changes. Even for internships, you don’t have any help from the faculty, as there are no partnerships and they don’t check if you are really doing the internship or accompany you in any matter.
View moreI had very good teachers, the classes were very interesting. For someone like me, who lived in a very small town, the journey I took at this college was very enriching. I enjoyed the city and student life.
