Are you passionate about the business and finance sector? Do you follow the national and international news? Then, an Economics degree is the answer. It has always been one of the most sought-after degrees amongst youth.
Economics degrees are designed to tackle all the issues that have an impact on financial situations, ranging from production to how resources are used. Candidates are trained to understand how the economy suffers fluctuations based on the market’s needs and wants followed by the market’s supply and demand.
By far one of the most crucial elements is that economics is divided into microeconomics and macroeconomic. Microeconomics deals with the economic behaviour at an individual level (companies, buyers, sellers and others), whilst macroeconomics illustrates the bigger picture, on a national or global scale (unemployment, economic growth, inflation and so on).
Having an economics degree increases anyone’s chances to find a job, regardless of the field. This is mainly due to the fact that graduates hold many transferable abilities, such as analytical and problem-solving skills, that are suitable for any career.
A study made by the London School of Economics and Political Science showed that graduates from an economics course have a starting salary of £33,000 per year. Having a job in the field right after graduation is a major positive aspect and comes with a lot of opportunities for career advancement.
Economics degrees are usually a three years commitment and sometimes are offered as part of a joint degree. This means that Economics can be studied along with another subject such as engineering, management, law, computer science and others.
This degree can be found either as a Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Bachelor of Arts (BA). The BSc focuses more on economical theory and statistical techniques, while BA is combined with social sciences and qualitative modules.
As a first year in Nova I have to say that it really is as good as it seems.
Something I was very concern about before I got in was the Nova sbe environment, since from what I had heard it wasn’t great at all.
But after I enrolled, I understood that it was all rumors.
The environment is very welcoming and friendly and doesn’t feel competitive at all, as it’s very often portrayed. And no, there are no fake class resumes circulating.
You may be thinking that, maybe since I am a freshman, I cannot really talk about it.
However in nova they attributed older tutors to freshmen. And what I heard from mine is similar to what I’m feeling.
In terms of education, it is also amazing. The way they organized the course shows the work they put into helping you have the best possible future according to your preferences.
The only thing that I feel isn’t great is the English level of some professors.
This is very important to highlight, since sometimes it makes it hard to understand the classes.
Last but not least, the most astonishing thing about this college is obviously the campus.
The amount of light, the open spaces, the beach view, the conditions they provide us (such as a crazy amount of microwaves and water suppliers), even a Pingo Doce and Fnac, are what makes this experience at nova so light and happy.
In conclusion, come to Nova SBE you won’t regret it.
I would recommend the course because it offers unique insight into the new developments in the modern startup world. Furthermore, the network it provides is amazing which allows you to build meaningful relationships all around the world.
View moreNova SBE offered me a perfectly organized experience from the application process up until the thesis hand-in. This really differentiates Nova: you get answers from responsible point of contacts in hours vs. days or weeks in other institutions. With that, Nova’s administration reminded me of a well managed multinational company. Studying in one of the greatest campuses (especially if you like to be close to the sea) gives you a special feeling day to day.
Having courses with experts on their fields and also from several high-positioned functionals gave me in a short time knowledge transfer insights of the status quo of my field and the tools how to develop those further in academia or private sector positions.
Even though the programme is pretty demanding (Masters in Economics) I am very thankful for the experience and the support Nova gave me with everything! I definitely recommend the school and the offered programs.
Nova SBE is undoubtedly the best Business School in Portugal, offering the most powerful university experience. The courses are interesting, the staff is innovative, and the campus is green. Everyone here is supportive and hard working, which fosters a culture of projects and continuous and disruptive growth.
View moreI was tempted by the great marketing they make about the university as a whole, but the internal organization is super poor (exams are scheduled with very few time from one another) and the services, such as Erasmus , are overlooked. In addition, the module content is really bachelor’s level.
View moreUndoubtedly one of the best Portuguese universities. Most of my master’s students are international as are the professors. The campus is beautiful and it’s right on the seafront. Undoubtedly an excellent price-quality ratio.
View moreNova’s MSc in Finance is the best program in Portugal. The quality of the professors is notable, they are very approachable. Career opportunities are broad and limitless.
The school’s campus is super modern, with many spots to study and to chill. It is located right next to the beach, which allows you to go for nice walks, surf sessions, and so on, to keep your work-life balance.
Your peers will be highly motivated and highly skilled individuals, which creates the perfect environment for a great learning experience.
Having that said, Nova is by far one of the best choices you can make.
View moreI studied 5 years at NOVA and could not describe my experience better in one word: gratitude. All the environment, staff, faculty and students contribute to excellence and the move from campus to Carcavelos has allowed even more doors to be opened. It is undoubtedly a pioneer space and will see its results in the medium / long term.
View moreNOVA SBE has a new campus and the facilities are great.
The older students are really welcoming and helpful!
It has a gym, a grocery strore and it’s near the Carcavelos beach. It’s simply the best place to study and to have a good time too.
Nova is a great business school! It is very focused on providing students all the tools and knowledge for a successful career.
The professors are very good. They are professional, they are experts in their field and they are able to engage students. The workload is a bit high and at times we are overwhelmed with work, but with this we learn how to handle stress and work under pressure.
From day one we have a lot of opportunities to study or work abroad, connect with top companies, attend networking events, school fairs, recruiting events, and participate in clubs. There is also a lot of help from the career services as they are only focused in helping students achieve their goals and work in the companies they desire.
The central office is a bit slow responding to problems but they truly care about the students and resolving their issues.
The campus is incredible and has everything a business school should have and more! It’s is close to the beach but also not too far from the center of Lisbon.
I recommend the school for those who want a challenge and a bright future.
