Student review [#104811] for Surveying and Geoinformatics

The experiences vary depending on both which faculty you’re in and what is your major obviously. My major’s programme requires a lot of work in the field. We go around carrying instruments and doing the measurements. Some of the students in there have graduated technical secondary school of same profile as our major so they know most stuff. And for them most of the things that are practised during labs and classes are well known things (of course not everything), so they often treat it like a kind of revision.
But the issue here is with all those who have not graduated such school and still were admitted. The said revision is often too little for them to properly learn the basics and practise it. Often they are confused and left asking or dependant on others.
In the first year, maybe a year and a half those who graduated secondary technical school rarely did anything new, rather practicing the already known things, often leaving the work to those with experience. There were pros such as finishing tasks earlier, smoother. But thanks to that those who do not have such experiences were often left doing nothing or little, leaving them little time to learn (it’s hard to learn just by watching and observing).
It just would be nice if on the first year the main goal was to level up those who have no experience while allowing the others to do something more engaging (like bigger projects working on their weaker skills). That is of course doable only by dividing students in two main groups.
