The passion for technology can lead you to choose the specialisation of Computer Science. This field has become increasingly popular in recent years, the development being so rapid that people are trying to keep up with it.
A Computer Science degree deals with the theoretical and practical foundations of information technology and computers. The scientific part merges with the practical one in various algorithms, information processing or in computational models. This specialisation often aims to study methodological processes, making representations on a computer, storage, or accessing information.
At the same time, the study of Computer Science focuses on the learning of programming languages, which are extremely important for any student. Python, C ++, Java are just a few of the programming languages that are explored in depth by students in order to solve the applications received from the faculty. Furthermore, on the labour market, programming languages are highly appreciated and integrated, being a useful tool for optimal performance of industries.
The most important skill that young people learn following this degree is the use of programming languages. Once they grasp the logic of programming, they will easily be able to master the languages and build or develop WEB applications. Additional skills that are acquired can be: network design and engineering, software engineering, multimedia design. In addition, classical skills such as teamwork, leadership, problem-solving or time management are also gained by students.
According to recent studies, 6 of the 10 best jobs chosen by graduates are linked to Computer Science. These include Web Design, Computer Support Specialist, IT Operations Technician or Database Administrator. Moreover, the employment rate is favourable to the students, being over 70%. Due to the rapid advancement of technology, it is expected that the supply will grow in the future, requiring computer science specialists in any field.
To study Computer Science, students can either pursue university courses or follow courses online, depending on their availability and income. Online or outside-university courses include disciplines such as: Information Systems Management, Game Programming, Web Development, Network Fundamentals. They usually have a duration of 2 years. Although these courses provide important skills in this specialisation, students may be disadvantaged when competing with a student who has a Bachelor’s Degree. Some of the most important campuses in the world include Penn State World Campus, University of Massachusetts, Lowell (The Division of Online Learning and Continuing Education), Saint Leo University.
The Bachelor in Computer Science lasts around 3 to 4 years, depending on the university. Throughout the programme, students acquire mathematical knowledge, theoretical and practical foundation in programming. Some of the subjects discussed are: Computer Programming, Data Structures, Databases, Algorithms, Linear Algebra, Probability Theory or Statistics. These vary according to the curriculum of the university.
A Master’s program complete the students’ necessary career skills. In this way, they have a greater understanding of computing softwares, tools, packages, and computer architecture.
There are Master programs that can be followed even by those who have not undertaken undergraduate studies in Computer Science, such as those offered at the University of Birmingham for example. These programs can take either 2 to 5 years.
A PhD program is especially dedicated to those who want to research or become university professors and can last between 4 to 5 years.
As a student at the University of Central Punjab (UCP) in Lahore, I’ve found the experience to be very positive overall. The university provides a modern campus with good facilities, including well-equipped labs, a large library, and plenty of spaces for group work or study.
The teaching quality is strong, with most professors being approachable and supportive. In my Software Engineering program, I’ve especially appreciated how practical projects are emphasized alongside theory, which helps in building real-world skills.
Campus life is also a plus. UCP offers a friendly environment, diverse student societies, and many extracurricular activities that make the experience enjoyable beyond academics.
On the flip side, administrative processes can sometimes feel a bit slow, but overall, the university continues to improve and expand opportunities for students.
I’d recommend UCP to anyone looking for a balanced mix of academic quality, campus life, and career development opportunities in Pakistan.
View moreI think the university is good overall and the teachers also have sound knowledge in their respective field the only thing I’d say is missing is practicality instead of theory focus on practicing and guys again don’t rely on chatgpt use your brain create your own logics
View moreOverall university is fine but if we discuss about their business and Computer Science departments , theri Lebvel of teaching are so impressive and different from others, They also Make it possible to get financially stable. Every year different Companies come to our campus for Recruitment
Classes are good and well cleaned , Professors teaching method is also different but some professors make it a personal issue , Campus life is too good , their Cafe and events schedule is too good
Dear Student Representative,
I hope you’re doing well. I’d like to share my honest review regarding my experience at UCP in the hope that it will be considered for future improvements.
Overall, UCP provides a decent academic environment, but there are a few areas that need serious attention:
Teaching Quality: While some faculty members are very cooperative and knowledgeable, a few lack engagement or fail to deliver concepts effectively. Regular feedback from students should be taken seriously to ensure teaching standards remain high.
Course Management: Sometimes the course content feels outdated or rushed. Proper pacing and updated curriculum based on market demands (especially in tech and business fields) would really help.
Administrative Support: Getting things done through the admin can be frustrating due to delays and lack of coordination. A more student-friendly and efficient system would go a long way in improving the overall experience.
Campus Facilities: The campus is clean and has potential, but sometimes basic needs like Wi-Fi, classroom equipment, or even seating arrangements are not maintained properly. These small things impact daily productivity.
Mental Health and Counseling: This is one area that UCP should start focusing on more. Students often feel overwhelmed or unsupported, and offering professional counseling services could make a huge difference.
Thank you for giving students a voice. I hope my feedback helps in making UCP a better place for all of us.
Sincerely,
Eshaz Asif
One of the worst universities i have ever been to. It was a huge mistake to study. They cannot even provide the basic facilities. No trees no AC for students in halls. Canteen food may cause food poisoning. In month of june and july it gets unbearable. Their prayer area is a JOKE, designated in second basement in a corner of parking garage where we pray for jummah and you cannot even imagine how bad it gets when 200 people pray together without ac or fans.
I have not even started on the staff yet and this is how bad it is. PLEASE whatever you do dont take admission here. My entire degree felt like it was prison camp.
They are creating building on top of building but they cannot create a simple garden or masjid. All they want is your money and could not care less about your education.
The University of Central Punjab, like many other educational institutions, can offer valuable experiences and opportunities for students. The IT department is having many professional teachers who have already hands on experiences from different things and it helps you to be more practical in your studies. I will highly recommend.
View moreMy opinion about ucp is nice because I think it’s best educationwise. But I think its atmosphere should be better. Tiktokers are making its image bad but it’s actually not. I think it is a well managed university in Lahore
View moreI am a student of BSCS and I shall not recommend this university to anyone due to intensely overpopulated students. The university has only one productive place for study because everywhere is tiktok and it is too small to accomodate all the students wanting to study. The lifts are not working. And the quality of study is not that impresiive.
View moreIt’s my dream which come my dreams into reality and I love to study here
Their environment and way to study in university was extremely good and their rules and regulations are extremely super good thanks lot
I’m the student of UCP. It’s a good university and highly ranked private university. Modern classrooms with excellent comfort are provided. High- or middle-class students frequently live on campuses. excellent setting for learning However, the Faculty has a few little log cabins. The cafeteria has comfortable seating and decent quality. Traditional red bricks are used in the building’s construction. Bus stops are close to the campus. Also nearby is the Daewoo terminal. The campus is close to Daewoo Terminal. I really recommend the University of central Punjab.
