My time at Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU), was a mix of positive experiences and challenges that shaped me academically and personally. One thing that stood out for me was the commitment of certain lecturers, particularly in my department, who were passionate about their subjects and eager to see their students succeed. Their mentorship played a significant role in my academic journey. The serene environment of Uturu also made the campus conducive for study, offering a calm atmosphere away from the distractions of city life.
However, there were areas that needed improvement. The university’s infrastructure, particularly some lecture halls and hostel facilities, often fell short of expectations. Basic amenities like water and electricity in the hostels were not consistently reliable, which sometimes made living on campus a struggle. Additionally, the frequent strikes disrupted the academic calendar, stretching programs longer than planned and causing delays in graduation for many students.
Despite these challenges, ABSU provided a strong academic foundation and an opportunity to build lasting relationships with peers from diverse backgrounds. Future students who are resourceful and determined can still thrive here, especially if they focus on making the most of their opportunities. I would recommend ABSU for those looking for a serene academic environment but would advise them to prepare for the challenges that come with attending a public university in Nigeria.
