FUTO: The Place That Built My Resilience

Honestly, choosing the **Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) was one of the best decisions I ever made, even though it wasn’t easy. If you’re looking for an academic vacation, this isn’t it. FUTO is a powerhouse for **technology and engineering**—they really push you to your limits. The classes and labs are **rigorous**; the lecturers expect you to bring your A-game every single day. You don’t just memorize things; you learn how to **solve real-world problems**.

You learn so much more than what’s in the books, too. You learn **resilience**. Dealing with the usual challenges of a Nigerian federal university, you become incredibly resourceful and independent. That ability to **adapt** is probably the most valuable thing I took away.

The atmosphere on campus is electric; you meet driven, smart people who become your family. Sure, the journey was tough, but I walked out feeling sharp, prepared, and ready to face the industry. FUTO doesn’t just give you a degree; it gives you the **grit and technical foundation** to succeed anywhere. I highly recommend it.

A Hub of Innovation and Academic Excellence

Futo is a university with great academic potential, especially for science and technology disciplines. If you’re determined, Futo will challenge and prepare you but you need patience and grit to succeed.
I like the strong academic focus in STEM, the resilient and talented students and affordable education.
I dislike the Strike Action and Academic disruption and some poor infrastructure.

    I Highly recommended
If you’re pursuing a career in engineering, science or technology.
If you want an affordable federal university education in Nigeria.
If you are looking for a university of strong alumni network and a competitive academic environment.

    Can be so much more...

A University that would help you develop the doggedness and perseverance that’s a feature of the scholarly spirit.
During my time, I found this institution to be quite behind in infrastructure, that would really set it apart as a hub for not just great academia, but as a place for truly innovative solutions to be developed via Research and Development.

F.U.T, Owerri... A Place Worth Going

I am writing out the name in remembrance of the good, bad and fun-filled time the school offered me. As with most schools in Nigeria, FUTO was for me one of the best schools to attend. Yes, the school fee is low, Yes we had cramped spaces such as lecture rooms, and Yes there are cases of students being extorted by lecturers but still, the school offered a whole pack of opportunities. What I do not like about FUTO would be its slow process of switching to a computer-based institution whereby everything can be done online, also its lack of good quality outdoor spaces where students could hang out. I remembered my first day in school like it was yesterday, although it’s been seven years now… had a tough time locating the school, luckily I was not robbed. One year of pre-degree was smooth as a breeze, then the real deal in when I gained admission to the Department of Agricultural Economics… for the school, the first two years, all departments in the faculty have combined lectures and that was terrible because there was no conducive learning environment for over seven hundred students, but as always, the onus of learning lies with the student. From my third year, we had separate classes which were nice. I had some of the best lecturers, who were always committed to their work. My course was a good start to a broad carrier path. Would I recommend anyone to FUTO, ABSOLUTELY!
