They call it the First Choice and Nation’s Pride, and that name truly fits. Many, especially aspirants, often see it as just a place with great learning quality and a conducive environment. But to me, it’s more than that – it’s a place of growth, challenge, and endless opportunities.
UNILAG is where young minds are encouraged to think beyond the four walls of the classroom. The competition is intense, and even the lecturers push you to think critically – they don’t just hand you everything, they give you direction and let you discover more on your own.
Here, every purposeful student learns to take initiative. We chase knowledge like treasure and make the most of every opportunity – from academic competitions to hackathons and global innovation challenges. The result is a community of creative and determined minds who stand out not just in Nigeria, but across the world.
To me, UNILAG isn’t just a university. It’s a place that builds resilience, curiosity, and excellence. Truly, it’s the nation’s pride.
UNILAG is recognized for producing skilled graduates who contribute significantly to Nigeria’s development. The university emphasizes both theoretical knowledge and practical application, encouraging entrepreneurship, creativity, and leadership among its students.

The lectures themselves are okay—the lecturers do their job well sha. My first biology lecturer was the most consistent, always showing up and delivering lessons properly. By the third week, we had finally started having regular lectures for most of our courses, but now, three months in, we still haven’t done any practicals for biology, chemistry, physics, or zoology.
I expected a different experience because I never imagined my first year of university would be online. Nothing has really stood out so far, but I absolutely loved the orientation we had! It was organized by the Faculty of Science, and pre-med students like me could also attend. It was such a fun and exciting experience, filled with interesting people and great energy.
I’m really looking forward to in-person classes because I feel they’ll be more effective for learning and will also allow for more social interaction.
View moreThe University of Lagos is an amazing institution. The lecturers are super intelligent and smart people. I love how the school helps students to be driven for excellence and success. However, some programs have really tough schedules which requires grit. Some students fall short at this point. The fact that my school is situated in Lagos makes it a site for people to connect and form bonds. Students get to attend several educative events and win prizes alongside. I love my school but I believe it can get better. Better in terms of infrastructure and management. Everything else is amazing.
View moreWe held all practicals as at when due and the lectures were easy to understand. Then making friends with people who knew what they were doing helped a long way as there was a motivation to do the right thing.
View moreMy teachers were amazing and very thoughtful. The campus environment is appealing and clean and the campus is well lit at night for security.
If you like a lot of social activities, then the University of Lagos is great for you, especially when it comes to sports.
My school is an internationally recognized school known for its academic excellence and outstanding records. I enjoyed my stay throughout my undergraduate. The lecturers are approachable, and they are intentional about the overall growth of the students. The students are nice and easy to make friends with. The academic environment is conducive and good for learning. I finished from the pharmacy department and the pharmacy program I must say is very stressful and tedious because of its mentally oriented demands
The only thing I didn’t like about the school is its very small cafeterias. The accommodation is very spacious and conducive. Despite its manifold challenges, I enjoyed my stay at Unilag
I am glad that I passed through the school and the school passed through me
The fact that the school is in the city centre and flanked by the lagoon makes Unilag unique. It is accessible to any part of Lagos by road, waterways and rail. Admission to the University of Lagos is very competitive hence it is popularly known as the University of the first choice. To acquire a B.Pharm degree in my alma mater is stressful and takes rigorous effort, even for intelligent students. It will take all of you, from long hours of lectures and lab sessions up to 14 hours times, myriads of reports and assignment submission deadlines to meet, to multiple test assessments and more. It will stretch one’s threshold. Laboratories are well equipped to Nigerian standards. We had our light microscope per student. The beauty is that passing through this will build one to excel not just within the health sector but outside too. It is unsurprisingly that a lot of Unilag pharmacy school alumni are tech gurus and business magnates within a few years of graduation.
Moreso, the school is located in the commercial capital of Nigeria gives students the leverage of early exposure to the cooperative sector in their respective fields- a rare opportunity other Nigerian schools so desired. This explains the adaptability and rapid success achieved by the University of Lagos graduates.
However, the delivery of the course needs to be addressed to allow students to go through much less stress. Recently, I have an unconfirmed report that the programme has evolved a bit.
