This very thing that got me interested as I stepped into the school gate I was stopped immediately by the securities and I was thoroughly search,that simply means that the property and the students are save plus the serene environment.

The University of Ibadan is a great citadel of learning and undoubtedly the best public institution in Nigeria. UI has fondly called it a place where diligence is duly rewarded. The environment is safe, secure and conducive for teaching and learning activities. The staff-Student relationship is superb. The staff are approachable and are always willing to help. The lecturers are good but sometimes incapacitated by inadequate teaching facilities. UI has a good number of standard and functional laboratories and workshops. Though some need to be upgraded. The work-study scheme is accessible to students who need financial support for their academics. What I like most about UI is the zero-tolerance it has for sexual harassment, cultism and violence. I also like the fact that discrimination of all kinds has no place in the school. UI embraces and encourages gender balance across all disciplines. One interesting thing about UI is that academic excellence alone does not qualify you for their certificate but also a good character. Accommodation is accessible and affordable. UI has a total of 15 halls of residence. 5 Postgraduate halls, and 10 undergraduate halls (6 male, 3 female, and 1 Mixed hall). The halls are beautiful edifices with a serene environment and good water facilities. The power supply is relatively constant. The rooms are relatively neat and well ventilated but vary in size. It can accommodate between 2-8 students conveniently. Getting accommodation in the hall is considered a privilege and not a right and it is based on a quota system. This means that not everyone would be accommodated in the halls due to the capacity of the available facilities. Freshmen and finalists are considered priorities over others and it is based on first-come, first-serve. The physically challenged persons are also considered a priority. A good number of students in other levels too are considered for accommodation, while other categories/levels may have to stay off-campus or in private hostels within or outside the campus as the case may be. UI has an excellent road network and the transportation system is good. Only cars, buses and tricycles are allowed to operate commercially on campus. Motorcycles are not allowed to operate commercially. Food and drinks are affordable at the cafeteria and are being regulated centrally. What I dislike about UI is the incessant industrial actions by the staff unions which leads to a prolonged academic calendar.

The lecturers who took various courses in my department had vast experience in the field, with various specializations. There was even a number who were internationally trained and recognized for their contributions! The accommodation conditions, while not totally top-notch, were the best I’ve seen in any public university in the country. All in all, the University of Ibadan does live up to its expectation of being the first and the best university in Nigeria.
