My opinion about the University of Benin is very positive. I studied English Language and Literature and I believe the programme is one of the strongest in the Faculty of Arts. It was academically rigorous and helped me develop strong critical thinking, analytical, and writing skills.
What I liked:
The department exposed me to a wide range of literature African, Caribbean, and Western texts. The courses were in-depth, and some lecturers were outstanding in their delivery and support, especially during my final year project. The programme truly challenged me and brought out the best in me. Campus life was also vibrant with students from different parts of the country.
What I disliked:
Like most public universities in Nigeria, we faced occasional challenges such as power outages, delayed results, and the impact of strikes which sometimes disrupted the academic calendar. Some classes were large, making individual attention limited at times.
Overall, I would strongly recommend the English Language and Literature programme at the University of Benin to any serious student who is passionate about language and literature. It gave me a solid foundation that I am still using today.
Uniben is a very good shool. My department, which is the English and Literature department was vey challenging, and it brought out the best in me. Mu favourite Lecturer yhen was Mr Legemah, he was very helpful during my final year project and because of his support I got an ‘A’ in my project work. Uniben is a place where you can grow socially, educationally, psychologically and otherwise.

University of Benin is a great University in the heart of Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. I love the fact that it is a globally recognized university, equipped with sound lecturers and materials for learning with a conducive environment.
The one thing that doesn’t resonate with me as far as the University is concern is the attitude of some lecturers, they most often don’t take their time out to ensure students understands a particular topic before progressing to the next and the most painful aspect is the non stop strike they often embark on, making a 4year program to last for almost five years thereby delaying the graduation year and keeping the student to spend longer years in the program, which is not suppose to be.
I surely would recommend University of Benin to anyone who is interested in having a university degree in this location, because aside the pitfalls I mentioned above, it is a great university to obtain any degree you have chosen or any career path you have decided to take. Their certifications is globally recognized and accepted. it is a prestigious university located in the Ancient City of Benin.
My experience in University of Benin is a bitter sweet one which am glad I had the opportunity to experience. Their teaching technique is something I love more, the way lecturers take out their time to make sure you understand. The learning environment is not so bad and of they is anything I admire most is the way the school environment is organized.
