Studying Soil Science and Land Management at the University of Benin was a rewarding experience overall. The programme exposed me to a broad range of topics, including soil classification, fertility, erosion control, and sustainable land use practices. What stood out most was the practical aspect of the programme— field trips, industrial trainings and the final-year project helped me connect classroom theory to real world agricultural and environmental issues.
Some lecturers were genuinely passionate about their subjects and willing to guide students beyond the basics, which made certain classes particularly engaging. I also appreciated the collaborative environment among students, especially during group practicals and research work.
However, there were some challenges. The laboratory facilities were often under equipped, and some teaching methods relied heavily on outdated materials. Administrative delays also affected the smooth running of certain activities, like project supervision and result processing.
Despite the challenges, the programme helped me develop strong analytical, research, and problem solving skills that I believe are crucial in addressing current environmental and agricultural issues. With improvements in infrastructure and teaching approaches, the department has great potential to offer an even stronger educational experience.
I would recommend this programme to students who are passionate about agriculture, the environment, and sustainable land use, but I also encourage them to be proactive, resourceful, and ready to navigate some systemic challenges.
View moreUniversity of Benin is a platform that challenges the mind of the students to push to make it. But I didn’t like the approach most of the lectures used in the learning process. I will still recommend the school for learning because of her smooth learning environment.
View moreThe university is very nice, accommodating, environment friendly and great for students learning,it has sufficient liabilities fir the social students and few fir the sciences in my own campus but enough at the other campus
Nice and budget friendly
I will recommend you to give it a try
The lecturers and accommodating and the students there sociable
Campus life is enjoyable and you have access to light
The environment was good, lecturers were sound but the student body was not excellent. Students can’t get speedy attention from the management. The classes also weren’t the best but they weren’t too bad.
View moreUniversity of Benin popularly known as uniben is arguably one of the best universities in Nigeria. What stands out most about the school is the provision of an environment for healthy competition amongst students. Although the school might not be the best in quick reaction to students complains, the grades given to students are greatly deserved. I would gladly recommend to school.
View moreMy opinion/review about University of Benin
University of Benin is a great University in the heart of Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria, it is a globally recognized university, equipped with lecturer of two categories, obsolete and sound/upto date lecturers. It is a fairly conducive environment with fairly moderate equipments and materials for learning, fairly moderate accommodation systems and generally a good environments for learning and instilling discipline and self development in general.
I would gladly recommend the University of Benin because it still stands out from other universities in Nigeria and seasoned students are raised on a yearly basis.
My opinion about my university is that it is fast paced. There are no proper guidelines or guides to put you through most things and you are expected to figure most things out yourself. One thing like though is the emphasis on sports and exercising. Though the amenities are not fully functional and operative, the students would appreciate a lounge or a open space area with good wifi to properly connect and experience other students and be productive
View moreIt’s a very good university,it has elite lecturers. I would recommend it to anyone who asks . The lectures are scheduled appropriately , classes are mandatory and with the right amount of reading and effort you will make a first class
View moreIt’s honestly a great place to study, not just the academic aspect but it gives a very real life type of experience and open your eyes to adulthood, the lecturers are a bit more intense and very academic but the students are great to each other and ready to help. My issue with the school is their hostel accommodation setting, it’s not nearly enough and I’ve seen a lot of students just trying to sneak in and pair with a friend just to find where to stay, they’re off campus accommodations but it’s more expensive than the school hostel .
