    Amazing choice of courses!

I enjoyed my time studying at the Open University. The number of courses to choose from was amazing, the tutors were very helpful and responsive and the online classes were easy to follow and understand.

Gone downhill in the last few years.

I did my BBus through Open Polytech (2007-2013) and was really happy, recommended them. However, in the last couple of years I had to do the Level 5 Certificate in Financial Services (Residential Property) and am now doing the Level 4 Certificate in Accounting, and wow has the standard gone downhill. There were so many errors in the Level 5 Certificate, they had not updated it with very important changes in the laws (of which I rolled out changes in my organisation, so I knew more than the tutor did!). Now I am doing a Level 4 Certificate and the standard of the information is poor, forms that don’t work and vaguely worded questions that the ‘tutor’ refused to clarify. At least I didn’t pay for it but the taxpayers (of which I am one) are still paying for it! Such a shame to see my alma mater go backwards like that.

    Supportive and progressive

Thank you Open polytechnic for all your support! In particular kate Caie who has been my facilitator for most of my programme. The entire team are also incredibly supportive and inspirational. Working full time and studying can be challenging, but with open polytechnic, study is made easier to balance with work and whanau. The entire faculty support you and they make learning fun! You’re the best! And I’m so grateful!

    Atrocious Please Avoid

I’ve been studying Architectural Technology with them. It’s atrocious, unbelievably bad.

Course Tutors are oblivious or just don’t care about educating. Course material is useless and assignments might as well be in a different language from the course materials, as they have no reference to each other.

As the name of my study suggests I’m interested in drawing Architectural Drawings. They expect me to submit detailed drawings however this is not something they teach in the course! I was given access to LinkedIn learning and told to learn how to draw over there! The price of this thing is $12000 to than be told that you will not learn anything is a beyond mind boggling! Stay away!!!!

Elwin, just curious, did you complete or not? I absolutely agree with you. There\'s such a difference between being an educator and being a gatekeeper, and the \'tutors\' at the Open Poly definitely don\'t seem suited to teaching - even if they are working in the field. I\'m currently struggling through the final paper, which really no student should have to do if a course is well-designed, right? I feel like I\'m being expected to have engineering knowledge, which I don\'t of course. I was the same as you - really interested in designing buildings, but nil CAD experience. I\'m much more confident with CAD now (although that\'s made me run 6 months late so far with postponing papers until I had the skill level to complete assignments and having to learn CAD at the same time as trying to meet the commitments of other papers), but I just feel that it\'s not actually me or my CAD skills anymore that are the real issue. It\'s quite literally that the assignments have nothing to do with anything we\'ve actually ever been taught!? I would never recommend this course to anyone, ever.

    Easy and flexible international learning

I have been doing this course distantly due to covid 19 for a year and the lecturers and facilities provided are great! They are very flexible and approachable despite the time differences and they even post voluminous content so that I don’t have to print them all.
