Ranking – UM is one of the top universities in Malaysia, no doubt. UM is currently ranked 60th in the latest QS World Rankings. Because of its reputation, people usually associate UM students with being smart. Generally, this is how people are going to perceive you.
Location – It is situated in the middle of the city, making it very convenient for students to get to places. Shopping malls, eateries, entertainment, and transportation are highly accessible.
Facilities- The facilities are sufficient for students to learn and navigate their learning journey. Since it is the oldest university in Malaysia, some buildings may seem old and not as aesthetically pleasing. The administration might want to maintain the historical outlook of the buildings.
Fees – The fees might be higher than other local universities. I remember being broke after they deducted my fees lol. But hey, please explore other sponsorship options. I was able to secure one towards my final year. Better late than never!
Overall Experience
I enjoyed my time here. This was the place that contributed to my growth and nurtured the leadership side of me.
Professors? Just like other places, they are helpful, though not all of them. My advice is to be proactive as a student. Be a knowledge seeker. If you have questions or confusion, just ask. I bet everyone is willing to help.
What Do I Wish I Had Done Back Then?
Explore activities or communities outside my program. Connect with people and build networking with others.
I wish I don’t isolate myself much and stuck in the room with books.
I want to be active and fully immerse myself in student life. All of these experiences will help enhance my skills in the outside world.
