The beginnings of the institution can be traced back to 1924 when the first buildings of what was then an academy were built in nearby Dotnuva. In the years that followed Lituania went through turbulent times which included foreign and brutal occupations. Higher education in the country persevered and faculties and buildings were gradually added to the academy. Thanks to the Lithuanian Parliament the name Lithuanian Academy of Agriculture was changed to Lithuanian University of Agriculture. In 2011 the current name was assumed.
